For the K872 I don't feel an imminent need for it, I am curious though, has anyone bothered to try a different cable with locking 3-pole Lemo or even considered a modification to balanced?

The 812 has a really bad impulse response which would imply ringing in the treble, which according to reviews shows itself as being ear piercing.

I haven't heard any ringing in the treble from the K812. I can't comment on any similarities between the 872 and 812 as I haven't heard the 872.

Absolutely no ringing in the treble on my pair of K872

As far as closed back headphones go I'm perfectly happy with the sound of the K872. Only issues I have with these are earpad related and because none of the reviewers have mentioned please consider these personal only:

1) earpad dense structure is very comfortable and prevents leakage yet builds up pressure to my ears easily. This should be no problem for the majority of listeners, having a Tympanostomy tube in my ear the pressure can be piercing at times
2) due to the earpad design the rear flap side ('sound sealing' part) has caused my glasses to fall several times when taking the headphones off single handed or impulsively. As I understand the earpad design of the K872 are the same as the K812.

Finally, I'm happy with the single ended LEMO connection as it is, just makes me wonder about the potential of these cans in a balanced configuration.

you basically have all three headphones I want lol. Ether c, k872, and esp950. How does the soundstage and mids compare to the ethers?

Keep us informed.

I'm tempted to try these as a partner to my LG V20 phone.  I know it seems odd, but this phone has a high output (1.8V rms) and sounds pretty decent.  I like my Sines, but if there's a better closed headphone out there...
