Semont, you are amazing and have my deepest gratitude. The velour look to be just the right size. Thank you.

Hopefully one day they start manufacturing some genuine replacements.

Hello!
New AKG K545 owner here!
I really like these headphones, but the cables that came with it really look very flimsy.
So I bought a 2,5mm adapter, but while reading this thread, I've seen pictures of people that have really nice cables connected to their K545, what were they?

Also i plan on buying an AMP or DAC for these headphones and my Shure S315, because when connecting either to my laptop or phone (LG G3) i ear distortion, almost deafening on the G3. But not on my player, Rockboxed Sansa clip zip.

Therefore i'm looking for a AMP & DAC combo that has 0 distortion, can be connected to Windows and Linux computers.

So i was looking at the Creative E5 because it has a lot features, and it's 200€.

Then I'm also considering either the Ibasso Dx50 or Dx90, because they can be Rockboxed, have nice DACs, and can be connected to laptops.

What do you guys suggest?

You can get replacement cables without needing an adapter on ebay. I use the c5d with these if I can; the medium bass boost goes pretty well to enrich the body of the music I listen to.

I just looked on ebay.

thank you very much! I really like the coiled cable, or the thicker one And i didn't find the cable because you are looking on ebay.ca! while I was looking at ebay.com

speaking of amps and DACs, i wish to pair our AKG K545 on an ibasso player, either the Dx50,Dx80 or Dx90 and using them as a DAC for my laptop, because it has a tremendous hiss. what do you think about this solution?

People on the ibasso thread say that the hiss originates from the K545 itself, i highly doubt that as when I plug the K545 on my Sansa clip zip, there's no hiss. but what do you think?

The ebay listings are more or less the same regardless if they're in the canadian or american site. Aside from some layout differences, it's mostly has differences based on shipping and currency.

If you can, I would give the fiio x3 a try. The last time I remember, they almost had a black background (lack of hiss) when I was using them with the much more sensitive Shure se215.

The amount of hiss you get is purely dependent on the quality of the DAC you're using with your headphones. Sure, sensitivity does play a role but at the end of your day, your headphones are not the source of the hiss.

The DAC/headamp is the source of the hiss, usually the headamp, to be more precise.

I don't like the looks of the fiio, and it doesn't have Rockbox support.

Thought as much, he's full.

What amps and DACs have you guys paired with your K545?

Im currently looking at dragonfly 1.2, audioengine D1 and audioengine D3.
Any suggestions?
I have really enjoyed them with the Shozy Alien. They pick up all of the detail in the music and the alien never lets them become overly bright. It's my go to setup when I get a new, lossless, 24 bit album to try out. Also like them straight out of a MacBook.

I've heard the D1 and D3, I'd recommend the D1 over the D3.  I suggest reading up more on what else is good at the D1's price point as I strongly doubt it is the best.
