It seems that we can order them now, however not at the price of EUR 1199, but EUR 1490, which is "just" little EUR 291 higher than expected, hmm, that wood stand got more expensive, I guess.

It would appear that the price jump was to drive them to higher exclusivity tp pander to the top echelon of our hobby, and when they eventually drop the lower tier will flood the stores to snap up this sonic marvel in their droves.

To be honest, I don't care what AKG / Harman thinks or like to achieve with such stupid price policy, because it is nothing but that. Sure, there are folks who will buy at the price of EUR2k to, but I know for sure that the MSRP was EUR 1199 in the beginning and you just don't change horses in midstream.

It's just absurd! looks like AKG will have lots of 812s in stock soon. I wonder how many members here got them with this price tag?

Not sure, just speculating here, but we know that some early pre orders can be cheaper with sort promo price, say EUR 1000, but again, I don't know if that's the situation with members who already have them, cos, nobody seem to be open about that so far.

If the price was around 1000 euro, it would have been an instant buy for me. But due to problems Tyll mentioned and it not beating the HD800, it's hard justifying 1500 euro which costs more than a HD-800 at 1199 euro.

I'll have to wait for more reviews before spending 1500 euro's on it. I'm still considering it because  it can be driven straight out of an iPad or iPhone (this is the only reason I'm still considering this headphone at it's current price point).

To the guys who own the AKG K812, is it worth 1500 euro? If so, I'll order one now and I'll have it next week probably.

I am open to review them, but, unfortunately, due the higher price they have, I do understand folks who will not offer them for an loan, so, you on your own mate.
I am afraid that EUR 1500 are way to high.

It's worth 1500 euros if you're obsessing over them.

If you are prepared to wait 12 to 18 months, perhaps 1000 euros will snag a pair.

Cheaper, second hand.

Sounds to me like a tizzy situation!

I was payed 1490 Euro for my K812. And yes my ipod drives them very well

Good info! Does this mean that:
A.) The iPhone can drive them with good volume
B.) "A" plus the sound quality through the iPhone is pretty high as well??

Any idea how much can be gained in SQ with even better DAC/AMP?

I have the rather easy to drive Sony MDR-F1 and they dont sound extraordinarly great with the iPhone, but pretty good nonetheless...
