AKG K812 Pro

If somebody considers the Phonitor he should keep in mind that the output impedance of the old Model is too high for the K812. The new Model has near 0Ohm impedance.

I will get mine this weekend and am really excited too test it.

Which value of output impedance have the old model?

I run my K812 with amps that have - Solo 33 Ohms, WNA MKII 15 Ohms - and the K812 sounds great!

To all my FANS WORLDWIDE. N O M A X wishes to all Here HAPPY NEW YEAR and many joyfull hours with the K812!

The old Phonitor has 9Ohms that means a damping factor of 4 with the K812. Usually the recommendation is 8. Nemomec has described the impact of different output impedances on the K812 (I think comparision 100 Ohm b.m.c vs 0 Ohm Lake People G100) in the German hifi-forum. He heared a greater clarity with lower output impedance which should also be true theoreticaly.
Nevertheless the sound change by the higher output will sometimes please a listener (like FritzS with his 33 Ohms).

This both are different amps - this experience is not significant. You must use the same amp with variable resistors.

A good test could be a new Phonitor with an adapter cable between the amp and the headphone.

In this adapter cable a box with switch with very good series resistors in each channel - 10 Ohms, 33 Ohms, 64 Ohms, 100 Ohms and the old headphone norm 120 Ohms - with this adapter the influence of output impedance could be hearable - but the loudness must be adjust.

Mostly I use the WNA MKII (a Class A HA) with 15 Ohms.

Happy New Year!

I hope folks avoid to pay that high price, its to much, no matter how they perform.

But this is valid for all of the so called "highend headphones". HD800, T1, Grado, Stax, Audeze, etc.
Nevertheless I would pay the money for the little bit better performance. T1 vs 880, HD800 vs HD600, etc.

Thats not the point, they changed MSRP by putting EUR 291 on top of it and I am very surprised that people just accept this.

'The suits' of the Harman International [AKG / headphones division] can do it because they want it ... or is it the other way around ?

I dont care about such policy, which is a greedy one for sure, price was meant to be EUR 1199, not cheap either, but just right. And yes, Harman does it, not AKG, as AKG a part of them, not other way around.

Was ir an official statement from AKG or Harman that the price will be 1199€ or only rumors ? I thought it was rumors.

I have an e-mail from AKG Austria, where they confirmed that price, after K812 were released. The same, I supose, happened with all those online reports where the price was mentioned as well, because it was mentioned at the launch day, for example price of GBP 1000, EUR 1199 and USD 1499.

So far, AKG / Harman price policy was not fixed and after MSRP launch, price was always dropping, so, knowing this, they just put another EUR 291 on top, hoping that the price will drop to the original EUR 1199 and I dont support such way of doing business, either you fix the price or just let be as it meant, but thats me.

Well it's now 300/500€ more expensive (depending on store) than the HD800, like I mentioned in an earlier post. I doubt lots of people will buy these now, reading as they are inferior to the HD800 in practically every way besides driveablity.

Rather funny again that 1500 USD = 1500 euro, while atleast the sennheiser hd800 only sells for 1000€ here while it's 1500USD in America.

Was gonna consider the K812, but with this price, I'll stick to my current setup.
