Would 240mW 2.5mm balanced be able to run the K702 to a point it can be called "enough"? I know it requires a mod, but I can do it. I have a Qudelix 5K as the only mean of running it, 80mW unbalanced on 2V and 240mW balanced on 4V. Will that balanced be enough?

I bought a K702, curious to try.

I had the K712 Pro, but found it a little too bloated and muddy on the bass, while I really liked the soundstage.

I had no problem with treble, on the contrary maybe I would have wanted them a little more incisive.

I guess in the end it dependes on your personal tastes and preferences. My case its actual the opposite, I've had the 702 for a while but although great sounding it does not feel right for my tastes of music, which is film music/scores mainly. You would say its perfect for orchestra, and it is, but there's something about film music that needs dramatic weight to feel properly dramatic. The 702 makes that music to sound pretty thin in comparison to others, as if it rips off the "drama" from the music. So I got the 712 and it end up checking all the boxes for me, adding just that bit of warmness and weight film music needs.

Hope you enjoy it and works better for your music, and if you can please share your thoughts with us.

X2HR fixes that need of weight in film music for me at least, some bluetooth AKGs do too :)

I'm listening to them now, they sound clearer and cleaner than the K712s, going from memory.

Maybe a little too thin and on the bright side, I would prefer a little more body, but with the Dragonfly Cobalt they sound very good, without any EQ.

My favorite combination. With the other stuff I have they sound too skinny and piercing at the top.

I detest the stock tuning of K702 but love the driver's technicalities (so fast and detailed), so I created this EQ in Peace. Surprisingly, the driver can handle a lot of bass shelf with minimal distortion, EQ made these headphones so much more fun.

Preamp: -8 dB
Filter 1: ON LSC Fc 125 Hz Gain 6 dB Q 0.6
Filter 2: ON PK Fc 127 Hz Gain -1.2 dB Q 1
Filter 3: ON PK Fc 350 Hz Gain 2.4 dB Q 1
Filter 4: ON PK Fc 900 Hz Gain 0.5 dB Q 1
Filter 5: ON PK Fc 2375 Hz Gain -6 dB Q 1.5
Filter 6: ON PK Fc 3500 Hz Gain 1 dB Q 1
Filter 7: ON HS Fc 3000 Hz Gain -1 dB
Filter 8: ON PK Fc 5900 Hz Gain -3 dB Q 2
Filter 9: ON HS Fc 10000 Hz Gain -1 dB
Filter 10: ON LS Fc 40 Hz Gain 2 dB
Filter 13: ON PK Fc 11000 Hz Gain -1 dB Q 1

I have the K702s and the Qudelix5k and I have used the 5k to drive them occasionally when in the go. The 5k does a good enough job and will give you enough volume, but eventually finding something with a little more grunt will do better. The K702s sound good through the 5k, but they still have more to give and on tracks with a big dynamic range or that recorded at a lower volume the 5K can struggle a bit.

For those who have tried both, which are the main differences between the K702 and the K701? Some don't notice any, but others do. Some say K701 is brighter, some say is actually warmer and mellower and the K702 is dryer but more precise. What's your opinion?

I've tried both, and they sound very similar--perhaps the same, given possible production variations between units. They are the same headphone, except for the color difference and that the K702 has a detachable cable and replaceable earpads. In reviews, where there is a preference, people tend to prefer the K702.

The 702 has excellent soundstage and imaging. The bass is somewhat less than what I would like, but it did improve after break-in with about 100 hours of pink noise plus pipe organ audio files. Also, I have had the K702 almost since it came on the market, and in the last year or so it needed replacement pads and cable, which weren't expensive. If I had purchased the K701, I would be out of luck!

Thank you both. That's what I thought. My guess is that unit from unit variation and even different burnt in periods is the main "difference" of what some folks notice.
Btw, have you tried aftermarket cables? Do they make any difference?
