AEON, MrSpeakers' New Closed Back Planar Magnetic Headphone

First I balked at paying 500 dollars for the chord mojo. Then after getting a taste of true audiophile goodness I decided to buy the Gungnir multi bit and mjolnir 2. Now I also bought a ZMF Atticus and awaiting them to compare with the AEON. How quickly my perspective's changed in 2 weeks.

the difference is that, compared with the past, now you have high-end with low price

I have preordered AEONs and now I can't decide "the right" DAC/AMP.

I have been wondering mainly between Schiit JOT or Mimby+LYR2

In ChiFi area there is quite interesting AudioGD NFB-28 with new ES9038 DAC but to be frank It's ugly and big though the specs are nice.

AUNE XS1+XS7 was also in my short list but XS7's output impedance is 30ohms I'm not sure if that will work with AEON because of damping factor (I'm not specialist, just been reading about 1/8 rule).

Pretty sure MC Frontalot did it first:

Check the MLE thread, they should be pretty knowledgeable over there.  I'll try the AEON for gaming in the coming days and let you know.  I'm no pro gamer with leet reflexes (I'm 40 ***!) so I can't tell you about lag from multibit DACs (other than the fact that I've never noticed any with mine).  But I can tell you how imaging and placement is.

Do you think these are significantly bassier than the Ether-C?

Hmm... I'd say they have significantly more mid-bass than the Ether C 1.1, yes.  That doesn't make them bassy by any means though; I think the AEON is pretty well-proportioned while the Ether C is mid-bass light.

No prior experience with MrSpeakers until today when I got the Mad Dog 3.2 from a fellow head Fi member and I am very impressed. The bass in particular hits surprisingly deep. I think I made the right choice with the Aeon pre-order. I can't wait to try an original design if a Fostex mod can be this good. I just wonder how much of an upgrade I can expect.

Does it scale as well as the Ether? I have a Liquid Carbon, but I may upgrade.

It's not as good as the Ether, technically.  But it does scale surprisingly well.  You might search back in this thread for @XERO1 's impression of the AEON with the $6k Liquid Tungsten...

The Aeon seems super sweet for the size of the package. Yet, every once in a while I wonder just how hard it would be to carry around full sized Ether Flow Cs... :grinning:

I would think not difficult at all. I carried the Ether C around everywhere without a problem, it wasn't heavy at all to me.
