Hey I'm new here and this is my first post so I'm quite the amateur when it comes to headphones!
I'm thinking of getting a new set of headphones within the $60-100 range, but preferably lower.
I'm looking for decent/good sound quality and somewhat stylish design(I've been looking a Urbanears Plattan, whats the buzz with them? A friend highly recommended them to me)
Headphones would just be used with ipod and on the computer at home, nothing to major. I've currently got JVC HA-RX300, and I'm extremely happy with them seeing as I paid about a tenner for them!

Anyway, answers would be greatly appreciated

The Sony MDR V6 looks very nice indeed, not so sure about the AKGs! I'l stick around for a bit longer to see if I get any other answers, and I'll do a bit of research on the Sonys. Cheers bud.
Again, it would be great to get a pair with clear and clean vocals for my rap, acoustic etc. but also good with heavy bass songs

AKG K81DJ? they are good looking to me.

I've never listened to those AKG headphones.

I do know that the reviews on them have been very mixed, at best.

If you want design oriented phones that sound good, like the
AIAIAI T1 or V Moda Crossfade, you're up in the $200 range.

The reason I recommended the Sony's is because they're a
widely respected "classic" that's comfortable, well made, and sounds good -
with enough bass to carry the kind of music you like.

Some other options are the Shure 440 and Audio Technica ATH M40.

Sennheiser has some entries in the price range like the 448 - but I'm
not familiar with them soundwise.  Perhaps someone will post about them...

With the Sony's, how are they with other music types, other than dubstep etc. Just looking for a solid set of cans all round that can do the job for most music and videos!

The MDR V6 will do that.

They have plenty of bass, though they're not "bottom heavy" per se.
(Their sound is fresh in my mind because I listened to mine just last night.)
I bought them on the advice of a professional recording engineer - they were the first quality
headphone I bought - and I've never had an interest in selling them - even though I've bought many
other headphones since then.

There are phones out there specifically designed to produce whomping big bass,
but the midrange clarity suffers as a result.  Those types of phones are very inaccurate
by design, but some people like their sound...not me...

Also take a look at the Creative Aurvana Live! if you're looking at closed back headphones in this price range.
