Hi All

I am back somewhat feeble now but plan on working on amps again in a limited amount.
Designing a OTL amp that will drive the Caldera planar headphone properly as well as other high impedance phones.
Going to use 7236 or 6336 output tubes with 6J5/L63 drivers better sounding than any 6SN7. might be too high of current to use 6AS7s.
Did build a amp that uses 4 E130L output tubes to drive the Caldara but these are hard to get.

Will be good to talk to all of you again.
Glenn
Welcome back Glenn. Good to hear, hope you’re well on your way to a full recovery.
Looking forward to all your new projects!

It's great to know that you are on the mend and building amps again. :)

So glad to hear you are doing better.

Welcome back Glenn :)

5CU4 is a great rectifier tube for the OTL but draws over 3amps filament current might overheat the transformer in other amps.

Glad that you’re well and back Glenn!

I got your OTL from another user, and using this very 5CU4 that Gibosi recommended, works very well!

So glad to hear you are doing better.

Welcome back Glenn :)
Glad to talk to you guys again.

Have to build some amps to stop me from going crazy.
In hospital for months takes a toll.
Being bed ridden and watching TV can't do it anymore. Don't work anymore so just sit Infront of the TV losing my mind.
Do listen to music too but have to do something. Only problem is I am feeble now hard to pick up the amp especially when in a box.

Glenn

@2359glenn
Can you provide some specs on the Caldera inspired OTL?
Output impedance and will it be a solid state or tube rectification?
How does it sound with high impedance dynamic headphones?

Hello Glenn,

Welcome & Glad to see you back. I was trying to contact you by any possible means but I guess your conditions wasn't allowing it. Last you told me, my amp build was about to start or not sure which stage it was in. May I know what are your plans for my amp build. Please let me know.

How does it sound with high impedance dynamic headphones?
Output impedance about 60 ohms.
Tube rectification ether mercury vapor rectifiers 866 or 3DG4,5AU4 or 5CU4 rectifiers. The mercury vapor rectifiers have a constant voltage drop 15 volts regardless of the power draw. And their blue glow looks cool and can handle 1 amp.
Sound should be similar to the OTL. Two 6J5 drivers two 7236 output tubes or two 6336 or four 6AS7s

I will send you a PM

Welcome back Glenn! I am so pleasantly surprised to see you active here again. Send me a PM as well please. I've been trying to contact you about a refund for my deposit for several years now and never got a response. This was an amp order that was never started back in 2019. I don't blame you if you weren't active here in this time. But now that you're back, I would really appreciate an answer.
