I routinely run 6, three on each side. A very nice alternative to the 6BX7. :)2021-07-09 16.37.28.jpg
I use 6 x 6N12S Melz daily - my favorite power tubes in the GOTL:

I really like these tubes for the clarity and punch they bring. The only occasional problem I have had is a noisy tube which usually can be fixed by re-flowing the solder in the pins (touching a 30W soldering iron to each pin for 30 seconds).

How does it different from the other 5U4 variants?

thanks, may try it out…:)
I've got one and it's my go to if I'm not using my WE422a.

The 5CU4 can handle more current than say a 5U4GB, so it's better to tube roll with.

Thanks! Will definitely try to roll that in, a I’m currently using a Westinghouse Rliaton 5U4GB (my verion only has 2 output tubes)

Yes, it can provide as much as 385 mA which is considerably more than the 5U4GB, 275 mA.

Interestingly, I have never seen one of these made by Tung-Sol, only Raytheon. But I have not been able to find a Raytheon datasheet.

Any Glenn owners interested in 4V rectifiers? I have a Cossor 45IU (53KU equivalent) and the GEC U18/20 (U52 equivalent) that I bought several years ago when I was in Glenn’s queue. My new amp doesn’t use tube rectification so I have no use for them and would let them go for a reasonable offer. PM if interested.

edit: these have been sold

For a couple of years I have been following all the items for sale in the classifieds on Head-Fi, using a website call Devbrada. It was very convenient to quickly scan Devbrada for the listings as they appeared, including search functions.
Suddenly today the website does not respond. Does anyone know if they are out of business, and if so, of an alternative?

Noooooo! Hope it's temporary.

I don't use it much these days, but I just checked it last week and it was working.

Not reachable here either. Looking at down.com says... "Down! Looks like https://devbrada.com is offline." - maybe a server glitch, a forgotten domain renewal or @canonlp has purchased the last best pair of 5998s in the universe and the search is over

These were my favorites when I had my Glenn. The U18/20 (CV31) was hands down the best I used, with the 53KU a close second. Just need an adapter and you're golden. 5CU4 was good too and is hard to find.

Same here. The U18/20 was a permanent resident in the rectifier socket. Any time I tried other rectifiers it was always a net loss to my ears, so after awhile I just stopped trying to find a better tube.
