    AKG K601 Price hike?

I came back to look at some mid-range headphones after I fell into a little cash, and I thought I would try some K601's. From half a year ago, I remember these being sold for less than the K70X, and going for maybe $160 in the FS section.   I just checked amazon, and the cheapest one is...

[Solved] Issue FiiO E7+E9+ AKG 601

I don't get it. I bought a AKG 601 a couple of months back. I just got my FiiO E7 and E9, but I don't hear a difference at all, it may be even worse sounding than plugging the headphones directly into my old M2Ne Motherboard. I even have more volume by doing so. Am I missing something?

Recommendation from vintage AKG K340 owners (present and past)

These are the phones I've been using for ever it seems and really like the sound quality and signature of these (neutral version). But they are quite big and are a bit too warm the wear for long in summer.   So, with that in mind what would be a decent headphone that would sound similar and...

    REVIEW: Grant Fidelity TubeDAC-11

A few years back, I recall hearing praise for a little DAC from Grant Fidelity called the TubeDAC-09. It was a compact unit with a good amount of inputs, offering both tube and solid state outputs. It reminded me of the Maverick Audio TubeMagic D1, also a popular unit in its price...

    K601 driver same as K501?

Does anyone know if the K601 shares drivers with the K501/500?  Just wondered due to the fact they are both 120 ohm and the 701 are lower.  Thought maybe the 601 uses the older driver and is a tweaked K501?  Not that this would be a bad thing of course.

    Headphones + dac/amp help please

Hey.   I'm going to buy new pair of phones and some dac/amp for those.   My friend recommended some Sennheiser cans and Matrix mini-i dac.   Personally I've been interested in AKG:s cans and maybe tube amp.   Budget is about $700.   Those brands are just recommendations for...

Does a vintage receiver cut it as a headphone amplifier?

I have a pair of AKG K601's and I've read here that they are hard to drive. I have two restored vintage receivers (Marantz 2250B and Pioneer SX-850) and a modern NAD C 740 receiver. The headphones sound incredible on all three receivers, but I'm wondering if I'm missing something. Would it be...

    First good headphones?

I'm looking to purchase my first good headphones and would like to hear some recommendations. I'm currently using onboard audio (ALC1200), and don't have any kind of amp to go with. I'm willing to spend max. 300-500 euros total (headphones+amp?+?). The headphones should be open or semi-open...

    $1000 dollar budget

I have a strict budget of 1000 dollars to buy the absolute, set for a log time combo of a amp/dac and a headphone. I listen to all genres but a little less of classical and more of alternative. The headphones could be open or closed(leaning towards open)

This is my first thread and I'm new here =D As shown above, I'm finding a new headphone (portable or full size) to replace my Shure SRH440... Reasons is that the SRH440's pad is not suitable in my country (too hot that makes me sweat after a few hours) and sometimes my ears will touch the...

    Upgrading from mdr-v600s

Hello! I've been using a pair of Sony MDR-V600s for about 9 years now. I somehow managed to step on them in the middle of the night about 7 years ago and busted the plastic bits that hold one of the speakers to it. I figure it's finally time to replace them and get better sound at the same time...

Classical music headphones | M50s not so good

I have a pair of M50's that I use with my udac2 and mostly everything sounds the way I like it. However I am just starting to get into some classical music (symphonies atm) and it's not sounding so perfect, everything sounds too 'close' to me if that makes sense, no depth. Even my Razer...

AKG K601 to go the way of the dodo?

Just a shout out if anyone else feels that AKG might cut the K601 in the near future from the product line.   This thought crossed my mind by chance after stumbling upon some online retailers that are now for no apparent reason 'no longer listing this item'.   It might make sense...
