Headphoneus Supremus
One of the best headphone for EDM
Pros: My favorite closed back headphones
Exceptional comfort
Exceptional Build
The most fun sounding high end V shape headphone
Imaging is stellar, amazing as a closed back
Separation of sound is also incredibly well done
Gorgeous looks
Bass is perfect, punches just right
Mids are clean and clear
Treble is sparkly, energetic, not fatiguing, crisp
Excellent resolution, sharp crisp detail
Transient attack is exceptional
Drivers are incredibly fast and do not trip over themselves
Dynamic and punchy sound
I absolutely love these things
Runs well on any gear you have
3 Dimensional Soundscape
Cons: Retail price is certainly too high, get them used
Bass can be slightly much in the carbon version
The midrange is clear and clean but not amazing
Other high end headphones can offer more texture to the sound
I can't put into words how much I love the Edition 8, my favorite closed headphones.

Ultrasone sound signature has always been my thing, and these edition 8 IMO are Ultrasone at it's best.

I have gone up and down the Ultrasone lineup as I love them, and this is the winner.

These are for people who listen to music for enjoyment, who like non-fatiguing sound that is presented in an extremely fun but detailed sound. They are the definition of fun if you are looking for that in a high end package.

They have the best imaging of any closed back I have tried, the sound localizes itself so well within the soundstage.

They are not the ultimate statement in resolution and detail but they have plenty of both.

If you love EDM, buy these, now. Every headphone I have tried in the past decade falls short of the glory of this headphone for electronic. These are fun headphones, they are not TOTL resolving monsters. For instance, Focal Clear MG resolves detail noticeably better and has more resolution and texture. Just know what these are if you're buying them and you're golden.

You can go up the path of more and more expensive headphones, you could find headphones with better resolution, but I think you will perhaps also come to the conclusion I have that these Edition 8 are special, absolutely addictive cans.

Endgame closed for me.

(And yes, I love the edition 8 so much I couldn't help myself but buy a second of them - Carbon And Ruthenium).

Great Budget All Rounder
Pros: This is a Great all rounder - Jack of all trades
Good Comfort
Warm Tilted Sound
Decent detail and Resolution
Classic Sennheiser Balance
Well built
Bass is impactful
Midrange is full and lush
Decent imaging and separation
Easy to drive with anything
$150 is a steal for them
Cons: Soundstage is Meh
Not exceptional in any specific area
Existence of HD600
Don't extend so much in the upper treble (lacks some airiness)
This would be a good all rounder recommendation for anyone, new or old.

They sound full, warm but energetic, and they do a great job balancing of all aspects of sound.

They lack in terms of soundstage size, everything sounds a bit close.

They are priced to be extremely competitive at the $150 level.

The main difficulty these run into is the existence of the HD600 and HD6XX, though it can in either case, be an addition.

The HD600 is a little more resolving and has a better less closed in soundstage. Mids are better on it as well. They beat these (slightly) in overall resolution, detail, clarity, and soundstage. It's not a big difference, but they get more detail and resolution. Overall sound sig is very similar.

The HD6XX will appeal more for those who love its more warm and rich tone. The HD6XX was not my cup of tea as I like a little more treble, but some people obviously love those.

I think for a $150 all rounder, you are doing extremely well with the 58X and would urge anyone to try them without hesitation. The major benefit also with these is they are plug and play. You do not need an expensive amplifier, they sound great from a Macbook.

Again - the main problem they run into is the greatness of the HD600 for a little more money. Take those out of the equation and these are a no brainer. They also get close to those, but not quite as resolving.

There are certainly better headphones that resolve more (at higher or much higher prices), but these are good especially considering the aggressive price. It's a headphone that sounds good (not excellent), and suits general use with music, gaming, watching youtube.

I'd recommend over virtually any other open back at current used prices around $120 and to anyone looking to get a great do it all headphone.

I'm more like 4.0 as SQ, but with the price of these, 4.5.

They provide excellent value at this price point and are very enjoyable headphones.

Exactly Right
Pros: Sound is high resolution, well out of price bracket
Comfortable for as long as you wear them
Replaceable Ear Pads
Neutral, not boring though
You can't get better sound at $200
These are do it all cans
Good bass punch
Beautiful and articulate Midrange
Vocals
Detailed and airy highs without fatigue
Kitchen Counter Aesthetic
Cons: Pads wear down after awhile and when they flatten too much, you lose some sound quality
(I bought some knock off 3rd party replacement pads off Ebay which work perfectly to bring them back)
There's not much for me to say about these as they are perfect headphones that deserve to be in everyone's collection.

The HD600 is a legendary headphone and rightfully so.

When listening, you will hear a full track portrayed with excellent detail, with great resolution.

They sound they produce is out of their price level, sounding multiple times their price and the midrange is simply benchmark.

The timbre is fantastic, vocals sound totally natural without any weird colorations.

They are clean and clear. Bass is punchy, midrange is just right, treble is detailed and fast.

I'll let the more experienced reviewers give you dirty details, but let me just state that these are a masterpiece headphone which deserve all of the praise they get and will continue to get.

They just sound right. Masterful headphones.

If you are the type of person that just wants one do-it-all headphone around $250, grab these and enjoy most of what this hobby has to offer.

Plus, how could you not dig this kitchen counter appeal?

I've tried a lot of Hifiman headphone models, including some of their higher end. They have some great sounding headphone models though. Although something that bothers me about Hifiman is they release a millions models with a million versions of each.

Really Fun Slamming Basshead Can
Pros: Dat Bass Bro
V shape sound W/ Elevated Sub Bass
Hard hitting bass
Sparkly treble
Nice soundstage
Imaging is good
The ear pads may actually be Marshmallows
Looks good
Bass is Excellent, sub bass extension is very impressive
Open sounding (for a closed back)
Attractive wooden ear-cups
Perfect for movies and gaming as well due to the exciting bassy signature
Removable Cable
$150??!!
Cons: Vents leak a little sound, not good if you can't leak any sound
Not best for small heads - I use lowest ear-cup setting both sides
Pose a health hazard if you try to eat the pads
These are great cans with a potent and emphasized warm low end and sparkly highs.

They are crisp sounding despite the very large bass presence.

They are very dynamic/impactful in their bass presentation.

They have a somewhat open sound considering they are closed back. There are vents on the cups and perhaps that contributes to this more open sound profile.

These are for people who are looking for a comfortable and fun bass emphasized can with an energetic and fun sound.

Just keep in mind they are colored, these have a boosted but tasteful bass. They are not the most resolving headphones and have a mid-fi sound quality but they are fun.

I would absolutely recommend these at their price, just be ready for some rather heavy/slamming bass and know they are very colored in a fun way. This is a really great basshead can - which can be difficult to find.

***Pro tip - Do not try to eat the ear pads. They are not actually marshmallows.

Pros: Bass, Speed, Imaging, Comfort
Cons: Can be bright in the treble at times, Mids aren't the greatest
The Pro 900 is special. It's the bass, which goes very deep, very low, and sounds powerful. This headphone also has some good impact, slamming nice and hard on electro house tracks. The bass goes deep, but it doesn't sound overly uncontrolled or boomy.

Okay, so it has great bass. What else?

These also have great detail. If you've never heard Ultrasones before, it's a safe bet you will hear things in your music you haven't heard before with their extended highs and very clear sound.

Now the mids. They are recessed. Even though this is true, it is obvious... If you're going to boost the low end and the high end, the middle part is going to sound less "boosted". The mids are still detailed, just not emphasized much in the overall sound signature. That's okay. You don't need very forward mids with EDM.

They are great with anything modern. Pop music, dance music, hip hop, anything with a modern beat which can take advantage of the bass of these headphones.

These are very comfortable. As the pads break in, they soften. The pad on top is very comfortable as well. I can wear them for hours with no problems at all. I actually love their design. Furthermore, these are built like tanks. You'd have to try really hard to damage these.

These have nice imaging when you get them positioned right. You can hear sounds from lower left, upper right, etc. It's a very interesting experience and something I have found the Ultrasones to excel at versus other brands I have tried.

I'm looking at the Pro 900i. It looks like the ear cup has a 3.5mm connection (right?) with screw threads.  Would I be able to use any cable that terminates at a 3.5mm?  I have cable with microphone for my iPhone that I'd like to use with it...

Also, how would these compare to the Fidelio X1/X2?

Thanks for your help.  I too, am an electronic music junky; big time.

Pros: Sub-bass, Good Soundstage, Sounds good un-amped, Fun With EDM, Price/Perf Ratio.
Cons: Long cord, Stock pads aren't great, Sharp treble, Leakage
For the low price point that these now sell at, it's hard to find a much better choice. Its sub bass is powerful and it adds a very fun bottom end to EDM music. Good sub bass is hard to find in a headphone, but the D2000 excels in this area.

In addition, they present music in a large but natural soundstage.

They are detailed and perform well un-amped! If you do not have a separate DAC/AMP unit, these still sound good. I enjoy playing them straight out of my macbook, with itunes or watching youtube with them, although I own equipment I can use to make them better.

One very nice upgrade is the Alpha pads, they bring comfort to a maximum, improve the soundstage, and overall just work very well with the D2000. Go for them if you can.

A few cons. The cord is rather long and annoying. The highs are can be harsh at louder volumes. There is some harshness and grain in the treble.

If you listen at low-medium levels, they should not become too problematic unless you are particularly sensitive to treble.

Again, my review probably doesn't add much to the available reviews, but I have to say these are nice headphones for the price.

I like how Twerk and Mshenay slightly hop around your question Marc...and I gotta agree with these guys, they are still awesome. I gotta get me hands on one of these again.

I actually never tried the new ones, so I can't personally comment on the lack of love for them.
