Pros: Extremely detailed, tight and punchy bass, comfortable (velour), detachable cable, very good soundstage, accessories, very easy to drive, look great
Cons: Shortest straight cable in existence, highs can be too aggressive sometimes, aluminum cups can get scratched easily
I've had quite a few of Ultrasones, which include the HFI 580, HFI 2400, PRO 900 and the PRO 750. I prefer the 750 over all of these. They have a very balanced sound with amazing tight bass and an edge in the highs. Mids are very forward for an Ultrasone, though I find the highs to be slightly too aggressive and overbearing at times, though it's not as bad as most people say they are. It's a very fun headphone, without the bass drowning the music like the PRO 900 and the ultra recessed mids of the HFI 580. I also think they are very comfortable because of the velour padding and that they look badass. These are extremely easy to drive headphones, and I don't understand why people say these need a lot of power to run, as I can run it directly through my MacBook Air and get amazing results. Out of my EF2A amp, I don't hear much of a difference at all compared to unamped. I will buy a small E6 for these to maybe get a slightly louder sound out of my smartphone, but if you cannot afford an amp for these, don't worry, they run fine without one. I need to get a cable extender because the straight cable is very short. Comes with a sturdy carrying case, two cables (one straight, one coiled), a manual, a test CD and an extra set of velour pads. It's an amazing headphone, highly recommended.

The ear pads are not velour they are real velvet.

Pros: Deep impactful bass, great soundstage, extremely detailed highs and mids, comfortable, look great, detachable cable, efficient
Cons: Recessed mids, not the most portable, leak quite a bit of sound, highs can get a bit extreme at times, HIGHLY recommend an amp (Fiio E11)
These are some excellent bass-head headphones. The sound is extremely clear, with an extremely tight, deep, well-textured and impactful bass, a clear midrange, and a very detailed high end. The mids are recessed, so if you don't like a V shaped frequency curve, then steer clear from the PRO 900. The highs can get a bit extreme at times, but I wouldn't call it harsh or piercing... I actually find it quite enjoyable. As well, the soundstage is excellent for a closed headphone, and the lows, mids and highs are all seperated very well. The PRO 900 are also very comfortable imo, and can wear these for hours, because of the soft velour padding. They look great, with the all black matte finish and the aluminium ear cups. Even though these headphones are efficient, I HIGHLY recommend an amp, such as an FiiO E11, which will drive them more than fine. Also, the PRO 900 are not the most portable, as they are pretty darn big. Overall, excellent headphones which I wholeheartedly recommend.

Pros: Bass, Look nice, Value, Comfort.
Cons: Everything Else.
I am not a hater of this headphone, even though I am a pure bass head, but want excellent clarity and detail retrieval. These fail at anything that is not bass. Highs and mids clarity is pretty bad. It just sounds so plasticky and echoey, I cannot explain it. The overpowering bass, maybe too overpowering for my taste, takes over the entire spectrum. The soundstage is pretty dang tiny, which means that these are the WORST CHOICE for gaming. If you want a great headphone, buy the Panasonic HTF 600, which is cheaper than the Sonys by a bit, and demolish them in detail retrieval, clarity and soundstage by a mile, and can satisfy any bass lover. Bass on the Sonys are pretty muddy IMO, but for consumer bass heads (not audiophile bass heads like me), this is the best choice in the whole entire world. On a positive note, they look awesome and are extremely comfortable.

Good review, the panasonic you recommended is a good option or the Panasonic RP-DJS400-D, but i here sony stop producing these

they are extremely comfortable and purely for easy listening and low bits.... any audiophile term except for "bass heavy"do not apply to them... they are muffled but not boring...
if you want some bass heavy headphones with outrageous detail try beyerdynamics ..

@XxDobermanxX really? wow, never knew these would go out of production. Those Panasonics seem good too, have to try them. :) @turgid agreed! Was about to get DT990 PRO (I saw you have those), but ended up not buying them because of the fact that they are open. Then I heard the dt770s needed an amp. So I bought the HFI 580. Great headphone! If you want, read my review! :)

Pros: Amazing, crisp and energetic highs and A LOT of bass (which are clear and not muddy), detailed, durable, look sexy, no amp needed, amazing soundstage
Cons: Not the most comfortable, mids are a bit recessed (though sound great), no detachable cable, cable is a bit too long for portable use
I had experience with many headphones, such as the ATH M50 and HD 380 PRO, and the HFI 580 is better in every aspect. I would pay three hundred for these! The sound is crystal clear in the entire spectrum, and the bass is huge. There is a lot of bass, and it is not overpowering nor muddy. There is so much detail in the bass region, it is almost crisp. They are pretty comfortable when you stretch them out. They clamp so hard on the head out of the box, almost at the same level as the HD 280 PRO. I just stretched them out with my own hands to make them clamp less, and the great part is that isolation is not sacrificed! Isolation is very good, but just a step lower than the M50s, and a few steps higher than the HD 380 PRO. They are easily driven by an iPod, iPhone and a MacBook PRO. Amazing headphones, that are the best in the $200 dollar price range. Though, the slightly recessed mids, no detachable cable, and the lack of comfort can be a huge turn-off to some people.

Good review, I like these headphones
sneaglebob
sneaglebob
how do these compare to ultrasone pro 900 by bass quantity?
LazBro123
LazBro123
@XxDobermanxX thanks man! I love these too. @sneaglebob the ultrasone pro 900 need an amp to sound their best. Without an amp, the HFI 580 have noticeably more bass than the pro 900. If the PRO 900 are amped (by let's say a Fiio E11), then the PRO 900 have more bass than the HFI 580. Do not kill me PRO 900 lovers (lol), but the PRO 900 are not worth the price, considering the HFI 580 could be had for $300 dollars less, and sound 75% as good as the PRO 900. (I tried the PRO 900 btw).

Pros: Sound Quality, Design, Comfortable, Non-Fatiguing Sound, Durable, Value
Cons: No 1/8 inch adapter provided
These headphones are outstanding. Sound quality, durability, design and comfort are all excellent. These are open headphones, so these are expected to not have the best noise isolation, but it's acceptable. These sound fantastic out of any source. :) For 300 dollars, these are a steal....... Seriously.

Sound: 9/10......The sound quality is fantastic. Detail retrieval, soundstage, imaging, lows, mids and highs are all excellent, as expected with a $300 pair of headphones.

Design: 10/10......These look sick. The black and grey look stunning. These also feel amazing and extremely high quality.

Comfort: 10/10....... These are the most comfortable headphones I have ever worn. The velour padding is extremely comfy, which is good for long listening sessions.

Isolation: 6.5/10....... For open headphones, the isolation isn't that bad. The isolations isn't great, but it's not bad. These leak a lot of sound in and out.

Durability: 8/10.......These are very durable, but metal would bring durability from a 8.0 to a 10.0.

I am selling these btw. http://www.head-fi.org/t/605733/ultrasone-hfi-2400-price-drop Selling them used.....For a great price!

Pros: Extremely comfortable, looks awesome, very durable, excellent materials, mids are very good, highs are good, goes loud
Cons: Bass is severely lacking, horrible cable, cable may be short for some, bass distorts at extremely high volumes, very colored, price
I have owned the Bang And Olufsen A8s for around 5 months. I am very satisfied with this product in many ways. First of all, These earphones look and feel amazing. The materials used (rubber, brushed aluminum and plastic,) are fantastic. As well, these are probably the most comfortable earphones I have EVER used in my entire life. It's so comfortable, I do not feel anything when I am listening to them. I have not had a single problem with these earphones and are very durable.

The sound quality on these earphones is not amazing, but very good. The highs are crisp, and do not roll off. The mids are also amazing, and are very accurate. The only thing I am very disappointed with are the lows. The bass is severely lacking, and distort at very high volumes. Also, these earphones go loud, which is a great thing for people who want their music loud.
etysmile.gif

Even though these earphones are great, there are a few things that set these earphones from bring a 5 star. First of all, the cable is TERRIBLE, like the one you get with airplane earphones. Seriously, it's that bad. The cable may be short for some as well. As well, even though the sound is good, it is very colored, meaning that they make the music sound better than it really is. Another holdback is the price. At $160, these are very expensive for what you get. These should be worth $120 at max.

Overall, I recommend these to anybody who wants a great set of earphones with good sound, good comfort, good durability and good portability.

Pros: Looks Great, Feels Great, Materials, Very Sturdy, Pretty Portable, Good Mids, A Lot Of Bass
Cons: Highs Are Muddy And Recessed, Lows Are Pretty Muddy, Not Very Comfortable
These headphones are at best good. They look amazing, with its very unique design. As well, these headphones are extremely sturdy, because of the excellent materials used (Leather, metal and memory foam.) These come with an awesome hard shell carrying case, which makes these headphones portable for every day usage. As for sound quality goes, the mids are good. They are pretty clear and accurate, without being recessed. The highs are muddy, and sound very muted and extremely recessed. The mids and lows bleed into the highs in my opinion. The lows are also muddy. Not as muddy as the highs, but still pretty muddy, even though there is an overwhelmingly a lot of bass. The bass seems very boomy, and not accurate and not well defined. Also, these are not that comfortable. The ear cups are way too small and has a very high clamping force.

Overall, I gave the overall a 3.5 stars because of its great design, durability and portability. I also tried the LP2, which is for sure a definite upgrade to the LP.

How is the LP2 an upgrade from the LP? Is just the build quality better, or is the sound clearer? The M80 interests me most of the V Moda headphones, however I doubt I would even consider buying it unless they eliminate the cord with the mic, and drop the price to well under $150. On Amazon they have the frequency response curves for the LP2 and M80, and the M80 is much flatter. The M80 has 40mm drivers vs 50mm in the LP and LP2.

Just got these yesterday at Radio Shack for a $100.00 and after burning them in most of the night with a good mix of different music from classical to industrial and ambient they are really starting to open up. The bass is the best i have ever heard according to my taste. Very rich full and balanced enveloping the entire audio spectrum compared to the Sony MDR XB500s where the bass stands out in its own space next to the treble.
Treble and midrange are getting better the more i use them with a warm quality to them out of my Onkyo TX-8555 stereo reciever. When i first used them last night things were muddy which was to be expected from what i read online. Now things are opening up nice and it will be interesting to see how the midrange and treble end up sounding compared to the already delicious thick milky bass.
Sound isolation is fantastic greatly enhancing immersion thanks to the memory foam keeping out environmental distractions. These isolate even more then the fabulous KRK-KNS 8400 i picked up last week. There is no discomfort when wearing the V-Moda. Maybe my big head is just the right size for headphones :D
With the V-Modas and the KNS 8400 i have found two headphones which completely satisfy and will probably now stop buying headphones sticking to music purchases and perhaps one more set of bookshelf speakers. As far as sound leakage i have yet to see it perhaps due to getting plenty of audio at a surprising low volume setting of 10 compared to my other headphones which usually have a volume setting of 18 to 25.
Being a bit of a advertising buff i was really impressed and overjoyed with the buetiful stylish packaging of the V-Modas aswell as the sleek sexual futuristic look of the headphones themselves which are marvelously constructed. Am really happy i purchased the V-Modas and feel quite fortunate to have got them at this amazing low price. Much thanks to the creators of this artistic masterpiece of audio design known as the V-Moda.

Pros: Looks nice, comfortable
Cons: Sounds muddy, active noise cancelling sucks, cheap plastic, OVERPRICED
DO NOT BUY THESE. I tried these out for 10 minutes at the Apple store, and I was disgusted by the muddy sound. For 300 dollars, there are so many better options than this trash. Cheap plastic is used and the ANC is terrible. On a positive note, these look really cool and are comfortable.

Bose IE2 and Triport 2 are actually good for their prices. The Bose OE and QC aren't very good though. Skullcandy and Beats are terribly muddy, same goes with those headphones at Brookstone that are supposed to "enhance" speech. Yick.

I tried the Aviators with the Demo music supplied at some stores and my own (using mp3 since Flac would just take a ton of space I don't currently have) and they sound great and are actually worth the price point in my opinion....  As far as stylish goes I actually think the V-moda Cans ( the LP/LP2/M-80/M100) look a lot cooler on my head then the beats ever will and sound great ( I have the LP and at 100 dollars and a TON of burn in worth the price I paid for them )

Pros: Very Comfortable, Portable, Lightweight, Mids sound decent
Cons: Cheap Feeling, Cheap cable, Bass is severely lacking, Very Colored, Highs are lacking, OVERPRICED
I tried my friend's Bose AE2s for 5-10 minutes. When I held the headphones in my hands, they felt very cheap. They were all plastic. When I put them on my head, they were probably the most comfortable headphones I have ever tried in my entire life. The cable was extremely thin and felt very cheap. When I played hip hop through them, the first thing I noticed was that the bass was severely lacking. I also noticed that the highs were lacking too, but the mids sounded great. The voices really stood out. The headphones were extremely colored, meaning that the headphones made the song sound better than it really is. Rock and classical sounded okay. I can say with pride that the Bose AE2 is very overpriced. The headphones should be worth 70 dollars max, not 150 dollars.

Pros: Amazing Bass, Great Highs, Do Not Fall Out Of My Ear, Very Durable
Cons: Mids Sound Very Muffled And Recessed
These are some great earphones! The bass and sound quality is great, and they are very durable, though the mids are very recessed and muffled. They stay in my ears very well, and are pretty comfortable and do not hurt my ears at all. The only thing that I noticed is that the mids are sort of recessed. Overall, for the price, great earphones. Definitely recommended.

Pros: Decent Comfort, Good Bass, Looks Good
Cons: Poor Value, Not Durable, Overpowering Bass, Sound Quality

I sort of liked these headphones when they were working. They were comfortable, but the sound quality was not that good. Too much bass and it overpowers the mids and the highs. Around 4 months later, no sound came out of the headphones. I paid $200 for headphones and they break? Also, these headphones do not sound like $200 headphones. They sound like $50 headphones. Do not buy these........ Buy anything else, from Audio Technica, Sennheiser, AKG, Grado, Shure, Beyerdynamic etc..... I am sending these back to get a replacement pair.

Pros: Sound quality, Bass response, Comfort, Durability, Construction, Style
Cons: No detachable cable, Cable is a bit too long
These headphones are incredible. Fantastic sound quality. The bass response is really, really nice. It's well defined, accurate and strong, but it's not overpowering. The mids and highs are awesome too. Very crisp and I heard things in my music that I haven't heard with my other headphones. As well, these headphones look really nice and are really comfortable. The only things I do not like about these headphones is the very long straight cable. I always have to hold a bit of the cable when i'm listening to music on my iPod or my computer. Overall, amazing pair of headphones, for an amazing price! I would pay more than 200 dollars for these headphones. They are that good. Buy them.

Pros: Great Value, Comfortable, Surprisingly Loud For The Money
Cons: Durability, Sound Quality, Distortion, Construction
I have owned the Koss UR20 DJ Headphones for a little more than a month. For the money, these headphones are pretty good, but if money doesn't matter, these headphones are not too great. If you don't have a lot to spend, these are one of the better headphones you can buy in the $20-$30 range.

Sound Quality: I must say that the lows and the bass on these are decent. It's deep and fairly strong. For listening to rap or hip hop, these sound pretty good, but that's just about it. The mids and especially the highs sound muffled and muddy. You cannot hear so much detail on these headphones and they are not too clear. It sounds like the lows, the highs and the mids are blended together, which means that there is close to no instrument separation. The bass is decent, but it is overpowering and it decreases the audio quality. 5/10

Build Quality: These are made out of cheap plastic and does not feel high quality, but $24.99 is understandable why the build quality is poor. The plastic hinges would fall off if you are not careful when adjusting the height of the ear-cups. I must say that these headphones are very flexible and you can move them anywhere you want and you will not break them. Construction can be better, but I love how these headphones are so flexible :D5/10

Comfort: There is not much to say about this. The cushions are very comfortable and fit on the ear very nicely. You can wear these for long periods of time without them hurting your ears. The headband adjusts to your head, so they are more comfortable. That's all I really have to say. 7/10

Portability: First of all, these headphones have no case. Secondly, these are the biggest headphones I have EVER seen. . If these headphones had a case, than it would be pretty portable. Koss should really add a case. 4/10

Value For Money: For the money, these headphones are pretty good. Even though these are not that good, I have to recommend them because of the great value.
