JVC HA-FW01 - The New Top End Wood Driver IEM (2017)
FW-01 from Drop arrived Thursday evening. I briefly tried them with pre-installed tips and thought they were too small. I swapped on a new pair of the AUVIO silicone tips that I had been using with my FX-850. They fit on the stems and in my ears perfectly. I’m very glad that JVC didn’t change...- mchang

JVC HA-FW01 - The New Top End Wood Driver IEM (2017)
Nope. Despite the product name/description, FW-01 from Amazon did not have a mic or remote. I am returning it, have re-ordered the FW-01 from Drop, and will be pocketing the ~$90 difference.- mchang

JVC HA-FW01 - The New Top End Wood Driver IEM (2017)
I lost my well-loved FX-850 in the O’Hare airport last night. :sob: I jumped on Amazon and bought the FW-01 (US version) during my flight home. Of course I should have done more research here before buying as I didn’t know that Drop sold them, so I paid $80 more. But as I look closer, the...- mchang

Denon D2000/D5000, MD2000/MD5000 Thread!
Mikelap, am I correct in assuming that the second pic (showing the Denons) are the Lawton pads? If so, I'm definitely going to save up and get them. Thanks!- mchang

Denon D2000/D5000, MD2000/MD5000 Thread!
Does anyone have photo evidence of how close Option #4 is to the Lawton pads? I have an old pair of Lawton-stuffed stock pads (stuffed before he started selling the after-market pads). They are significantly thicker than the pics posted on eBay. With a few small splits starting to appear, I'm...- mchang

The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)
I got mine through Amazon.com from a seller named J-Made. Price was fair (although it looks like price has gone up recently). Shipping was lightning quick from Japan to central Texas. Communication was good. Got a few nice origami items and a handwritten thank-you note.- mchang

I am the one that posted about the loose fit with the Westone cable and fx850. I will confirm that the connection on the right side is loose (but usable), where as the left is a bit tighter. Neither is as tight as the stock cables.- mchang

Denon D2000/D5000, MD2000/MD5000 Thread!
It's been several years since I opened the box on my D5000, but my memories of that time are EXACTLY as you described. I bet if I go back into my old Head-Fi posts, I probably see many of the same phrases you used. If you can swing it, send the D5000 to Lawton Audio. Get the tuning and angle...- mchang

The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)
I wonder if the j444 mod and increased air movement can help explain what I'm experiencing with my FX850 and recently received set of Comply tips. I posted earlier about how the stock medium silicone tips were just a bit too small. Too much air circulating. AUVIO medium silicone were a tiny...- mchang

Brief Odac impressions
Those devices require a hub. The hub doesn't have to be powered, though. I'm using a normally powered 4-port hub, but not plugging it in. Read and try this: http://blog.jdslabs.com/?p=838- mchang

The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)
I did try the large stock silicone tips. It definitely created a more solid seal in my ears, but they started to hurt after awhile. I think it's like the Three Bears: - The stock medium silicone tips were just a bit too small. - The stock large were too big. - The AUVIO medium silicone...- mchang

The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)
The Westone cable+mic showed up ahead of schedule, too. Woot!! I can confirm that the Westone cables produce sound with the FX850, the remote controls work with my iPhone 6, and the microphone works with calls. The Westone mmcx connections seem a bit looser than with the stock cable. One side...- mchang

Ordered via Amazon 11/26. Received in Central Texas today (12/3). Very surprised at the speed coming from Japan. Initial tangible impressions: Elegant packaging and travel case. Well I just placed an order for a pair of FX850, along with the Westone MFi cable with mic and controls. If they don't work, I guess I can always sell them here and recoup most of the cost. With expedited shipping, I hope to get them late next week or the week after. Cautiously excited!- mchang

The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)
I wasn't quite clear. I'm looking at the Westone replacement cable+mic options for the FX850. I actually returned a pair of Westone W20 to Amazon today. I did not care for the sound at all (coming from the Etymotic hf3). I posted my thoughts on two other HF threads, so I won't repeat it here...- mchang

The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)
I've read the last 10+ pages of this thread. I am trying to choose between the FX850 and the Fostex TE-05. I've seen several reports here about Shure and other brand cables working with the FX850. Fostex TE-05 Japanese Price, Release Date Announced
I've skimmed this thread and googled, but could not find a confirmation that Shure, UE, or Westone cables with mic work with the TE-05. I'm seriously considering the Fostex, but I need iPhone controls and mic. Thanks for any info.- mchang

I've been reading this this thread for the past week, and thought I would share some initial thoughts on my newly received W20. Replacement for Etymotic hf3 -- or just get another pair?
Here's what I typed up for my friend with the ER-4: "Got the Westone W20 yesterday. I find them to be quite opposite from the Ety hf3. Comfort and ease of use: Advantage hf3 pretty much all around. Cable: W20 because it is removable. However the mic is way smaller on hf3. Sound: It's very...- mchang

Replacement for Etymotic hf3 -- or just get another pair?
FWIW... I'm still high on Etymotic. I used both pairs of hf3s several hours a day just about every day (one pair at work, one in the car). Nothing lasts forever, and they've served me well. My buddy is a big fan of his ER4 and had them recabled by Ety a year or two in and is still rocking out...- mchang
