CanJam at RMAF 2014 impressions
It looks like I won a prize from the Canjam thing, but I haven't been contacted by email or phone. How long should I wait? How long before someone gives the prize from someone else because they didn't hear from me?- Skye

Eesh, I'm behind, Rinthe. Sorry for forgetting about you. I believe the main differences between the different Dac1 models are their inputs and features, not their sound or performance. USB would be useful if you don't have a digital out from your computer. In fact, if you're just...- Skye

ASIO Not Working in Foobar
I figured it out! I had set my sound card to external clock since I was having clock issues when working in Pro Tools. Now if I set my sound card's clock to internal when listening to music and external when mixing, Foobar with Asio and Pro Tools are both happy. :-)- Skye

If you have the budget for the Benchmark Dac1, keep in mind it is a headphone amp also. That could be a big money saver if you'd be getting a dac that nice anyway. Another thing to keep in mind is that good dacs work for speaker systems, not just headphone systems. I don't know about you, but I...- Skye

Quote: Okay, a few of the basics for your system. There is a dac in any digital device that makes sound, like a cd player, iPod, laptop, etc. It converts the digital ones and zeros to an analog audio signal that speakers can turn into sound. But a dedicated, high-quality dac will...- Skye

ASIO Not Working in Foobar
I've used ASIO with Foobar for probably two years now. Out of the blue, it stopped working. The song plays maybe a quarter of a second and the visualizations begin, then it freezes with the visualizations stuck at that sound. Yes, my output is ASIO. Yes, the channels are mapped. ...- Skye

Why buy a Macbook?
I didn't take the time to read all of the above. I'm studying audio at my school. Everyone there prefers Mac because it never crashes and it does wonderful things PC can't. The Macs at my school crash all the time and have all sorts of problems, and everything they do I can do easier on my...- Skye

I'm fighting with a distortion problem as well, although the CanAmp isn't as fault. The fault seems to lie with my media player, my DAC, or an unfortunate percentage of my music suffering from hyper-compression. =\- Skye

If your problem is not enough gain and the sound either being too quiet or too distorted, the CanAmp may help. If I turn my music player down by 10dB, I still can't bear to turn the CanAmp's volume knob past twelve o'clock. Make sure you don't ask too much from your other amps, by the way...- Skye

I don't have enough experience to answer most of those points, but I can tell you this: Just as an example, I played Need for Speed: Most Wanted through again recently. When I played the audio through a pair of Bose bookshelf speakers that supposedly cost hundreds and hundreds new, the...- Skye

My CanAmp arrived! I'm listening to it now, but it hasn't been burned in yet. And the Fed Ex guy woke me in the middle of my sleep cycle. I'm going to let it cook in to some music while I catch some z's.- Skye

Dreamweapon, The source is a pretty important piece of the signal chain. Most experienced listeners would tell you it doesn't make sense to that a great pair of cans and a great amp would perform their best when fed a poor quality signal from a cheap source. Using optical out from your CD...- Skye

The sound that bothers me the most about the k702 is the harshness around the sibilance range. More than sss, the sh and ch stick out really clearly. But it has softened since I first got the headphones, I've gotten used to it, and I hope more of it is diminished when I actually get a headphone...- Skye

From what I've heard, the Canamp and the k702 both require fairly extensive burn-in. This is only from reading because the CanAmp I heard was fully burned in, but more than a couple people said they weren't impressed at first, but later, after maybe 200 hours?, they were. But both should sound a...- Skye

Choosing an amp for the AKG K702
Thanks for the update. I'm glad you did hear at least a slight difference, but do you regret purchasing it? I think buying a DAC will help for multiple reasons: First, of course, the digital to analog conversion is being performed by a higher quality chip. Second, you aren't running...- Skye

Choosing an amp for the AKG K702
I'd love to hear your impressions also. I'm still deciding whether I should order my amp as soon as Dan gets them in stock, or if I should wait until after Christmas (might be easier on mah pocket book). I'm not a big fan of the AKG k240, to be honest. My school's studio has maybe 15 pairs of...- Skye

Choosing an amp for the AKG K702
Yep, Dan is nice, and he does go out of his way for us. It used to be you'd have to wait for months and months for a CanAmp, but Heed Audio got a lot better with manufacturing them efficiently. However the current delay is due to the change between the attached cable and the IEC plug. They'll...- Skye

Choosing an amp for the AKG K702
Some of the solid-state amps, including the CanAmp, are Class-A amplifiers, meaning they run full tilt all the time and create a lot of heat. But it doesn't appear that the heat is damaging. On the contrary, they sound better after they've had a while to warm up. A lot of listeners and even Dan...- Skye
