That piece can be unscrewed (it's threaded) with a pair of pliers, which I see you already have.- zmorris

Audeze LCD-2 Orthos
Quote: Okay, so I've figured out how to permanently loosen the tension in the headband. For anyone who's interested, I first unscrewed the four screws on each side securing the headband, then used a heatgun to carefully remove the foam padding. Afterwords, I applied heat to the headband...- zmorris

Audeze LCD-2 Orthos
I received mine a few weeks ago and have had some time during the holiday to get fully acquainted with it. Overall I'm satisfied with these headphones, however I noticed some flaws that should be pointed out: 1. The JMoney pads are extremely firm and made of lower quality, rougher leather...- zmorris

Audeze LCD-2 Orthos
To the owners of the LCD-2: How large is the diameter of the leather pads in inches? Would anyone care to measure them with a ruler or caliper? I know the driver is approximately 2.9" large, but what about the overall size of each side? Thanks- zmorris

Rattling in D2000's (noob question)
Turn your head side-to-side quickly, as if you were saying no, with the headphones on and don't plug them in anything. Also, be in a quiet room while you're doing this.. Do you hear the rattling noise if you do that?- zmorris

Cambridge DACMagic, anyone?
I pre-ordered one from Wild West Electronics on the 15th and asked when it's going to be shipped. I received this a response: Quote: Thank you for your inquiry. We are told by the US distributor that the first batch of DacMagics are due to land in North America around October 22nd...- zmorris

Finding / Replacing Pads for the Sony CD1000 / CD3000
These instructional videos about how to create plush toys and stuffed dolls should give you an idea about how to create your own earpads. The basic principle is the same, you're just working with different prestitched patterns and material (soft leather). This video about making footballs is...- zmorris

Finding / Replacing Pads for the Sony CD1000 / CD3000
It wouldn't be too hard to sew an elastic band of some sort, like a waist band used in boxer shorts or briefs but with lower elasticity and higher tensile strength, to the edges of the earpad. Denon have used a similar technique on their D2000/D5000 headphones.- zmorris

Why Do they stop making the good ones?
I made a similar post about the lack of headphone innovation a while ago, too. Not only do I think it's because everything is mass produced with nearly no oversight in design and quality control, but also it's rare nowadays to find someone with an equivalent skillset and experience as the...- zmorris

Predator Amps overpriced or worth it?
I've taken a look at what's inside the Predator and quite frankly the parts don't justify the $475 cost. The only things on the PCBs inside of its custom pre-fabricated case besides what is seen from the outside are two or three capacitors, some smd resistors, some blanked out/nail polished ICs...- zmorris

Denon AH-D5000 build quality. What is this?
Just a quick note: You may find that the 4 mm precision nut driver, or at least the one that I showed in my previous post, will be slightly too big to fit in the hole. Don't try to force it in to try to make it fit, as that will expand the hole and make the fitting too loose for the chrome cap...- zmorris

Denon AH-D5000 build quality. What is this?
Although you're going to return these, for other people who have the same problem and want to try to fix this themselves, it's very easy. Just insert a paper clip or other wire with similar thickness in this circled area to remove the frustum-shaped chrome-plated cap, then you'll find a 4 mm nut...- zmorris
