I definitely didn't start with this. One of the curses of being on Head-fi since 2008 and upgrading throughout the years. Honestly, Ive seen plenty of setups with multiple headphones, amps, preamps, where you are approaching the same value. I'm definitely in the one headphone only category.

I too prefer the internal dac of HE-1 vs something like the Chord DAVE with DC4 LPS. Everything just sounds more “real” with the HE-1 dac. My opinion is that you are better off upgrading the source (e.g. dedicated server vs something like a MacBook) instead of using a different DAC.

They are made by Sennheiser and can only be purchased by HE-1 owners. If one goes bad, you have to replace all 8. They also come in a box in numerical order and need to be installed in that order.
