I'm seeing a release date of October 6th for the USA. Has this been released especially early to certain retailers?- balanceofpower

HD600-like portables for jogging with an iPod
Thanks for the responses so far. Aesthetics aren't a big concern.. over ear is preferable, so long as they're not too heavy. Budget would be up to $150 in the 'used' range. I realize most portables are probably in-ear and I may be locking myself out of a wide variety of earphones here. With...- balanceofpower

HD600-like portables for jogging with an iPod
This topic has probably been covered ad nausem but I'll give it a shot anyway. As the topic says, I use Sennheiser HD600 headphones as my main listening cans at home and absolutely love their sound. Can anyone steer me in the direction of more portable headphones that share a similar sound? I...- balanceofpower

Great Debut Albums
Guns N Roses - Appetite for Destruction is the first that came to mind. Definitely a breath of fresh air when it was released among the hairspray bands that were stinking the rock/metal scene.- balanceofpower

Great Electronica (give me suggestions!)
They used to be one of the most popular Trance artists in the world at the turn of the millennium.. ASTRAL PROJECTION. I'm not even sure if they're still around but they're the artists that go me into electronica a while back.. be sure to check out "Dancing Galaxy" and "Another World".- balanceofpower

Studio or Live releases, which do you prefer?
I'm pretty torn on this issue, but I must say Phish and the Grateful Dead I very rarely if ever listen to their studio albums and frequently pull for their various archived live shows and official live releases.- balanceofpower

burning mix CDs at an equal volume
Ditto on MP3gain. Replaygain's also a useful feature for checking volume between various songs on an album.- balanceofpower

Thumbs sadly down on new Joy Division remasters...
Thanks for the heads up. I've nearly given up on finding a respectable remaster these days.. the only ones remaining in my collection are by Rush from '97 and Iron Maiden from '98 and even those I'm not particularly crazy about.- balanceofpower

I must fix Californication.
I wouldn't mind hearing the "unmastered" version. Out of over 600 cds or so that I own, this album is easily in the top 3 or 4 loudest of them all. Terrible fidelity, even painful. Apparently the vinyl's also bad.. surprising it hasn't been re-released by now.- balanceofpower

The Death Of Hi-Fi
What really ticks me off is the loudness wars. I'm usually afraid to buy commercial cds now, assuming they'll be mixed way too loud and with horrible compression (like Californication by RHCP).- balanceofpower

Yes/Rush Recommendations Please
If you can pony up the cash, the MFSL pressings of Signals, Moving Pictures, Permanent Waves, and 2112 by Rush are fantastic. The Mercury remasters that are probably still in stores and used bins are OK but mixed a little loud IMO. Also agree on The Fragile by Yes being excellent on DVD-A.. the...- balanceofpower

Albums that show off your headphones
Eagles - Hotel California (DVD-A), Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon (MFSL & SACD hybrid), Beach Boys - Pet Sounds (DVD-A).. and for the heavier side of listening, Blind Guardian - A Night at the Opera (redbook CD) and Metallica - S/T (DVD-A).- balanceofpower

Melodic/death/metalcore metal reccomendations??
Not exactly melodic, but GORGUTS is a great underrated Death Metal band. Every album is fantastic. They started off as excellent primitive DM and evolved into a sort of avant-garde style with Obscura and later.- balanceofpower

Upgraded: HD600 stock cable -> HD650 stock cable -- sounds worse?!
I just got a new HD650 stock cable in from SennheiserUSA to use in my HD600s and the sound so far is oddly enough, more dull and veiled sounding. Is there a break-in period for the stock HD650 cable? I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm also using a generic Radio Shack 1/4 to 1/8 adapter.. not...- balanceofpower

So, my jounrney to the Grado land ends...
The 'thin sound' has been one of my biggest gripes with them along with the forward nature of them. I've become so accustomed to my Senns now that the Grados seem a little too aggressive for long term listening now. I still do have the SR225s and use them for Rock/Metal but they rarely get play...- balanceofpower

I think I have tinnitus...
I have tinnnitus. Use it as a warning to be careful in the future. Everyone's situations are different but in my case it most likely was caused by reckless concert attending in my youth without earplugs. I try to use earbuds or in-ear cans as little as possible these days to be more careful...- balanceofpower

HD 650 Fans
I still have 600/650s as my main cans. The soundstage placement and warmth of these guys is what I seem to love best. Most cans now seem too 'forward' for my tastes and these I feel like I'm at a good concert hall or symphony a few rows back.- balanceofpower

Looking for a first set of headphones up to $200
Sennheiser HD600 are one of the more popular phones in that price range, and from what I've heard with my ears, my favorite. You should be able to find them somewhere on the net for under $200 shipped. They take a little getting used to since they place the music a little further back in your...- balanceofpower

Etymotic ER-4P, UE Triple.fi 10, Super.fi 5 Pro, Shure SE310, SE420, or SE530.
I was surprised with the ER-4P. They are somewhat close to the Sennheiser HD600s I use, though for long term listening I much prefer non-in ear cans. For total portability and convenience those little ERs are fantastic for the $.- balanceofpower

Need in-ear headphones...
The SE110s were a major improvement over stock ipod earbuds from my listening. Etymotic Research makes some great ones, too, though out of your budget range. Try a few on in stores if you can since the fit can be a bit finicky per person.- balanceofpower
