    AKG experts - K501, K601, K701

I own the K271, which I also use in the studio and the K701 which is my main phone. I'm one of those who prefers the K701, for dedicated home listening, to all comers at or below its price range. The K701 sounds more open, bigger, more detailed and fuller than the K271. If you are at all like me...

ETYMŌTIC IEM Owners Headcount - Are you one?

I have 2 pairs of ER4P's. One I got for me, the other I got for a friend, but they backed out after I bought them (their loss). Now they're my backup pair. Best thing I've ever used for portable/travel/in-the-bed-and-my-wife-is-trying-to-sleep use.

Creek OBH-11SE Rev B Appreciation Tread

The difference between the SE and non-SE is that the SE is discrete, whereas the non-SE uses op-amp(s). I finally got my SE back out of the shop. Evidently, getting replacement transistors is a PITA. Now, however it is back with all new transistors, much improved heat sinks, venting, and all...

    are the k701's for me?

I haven't heard the Beyer's so I can't say "better", but the K701 sounds great on just about everything I listen to. They're properly burned in (well over 300 hours) and, now, decently amped. I've got no urge to look for anything else.

Amen, brother. And to those guys looking for the ultimate burn-in tracks (in my humble, yet accurate, opinion) look no further than XLO/Reference Labs Test and System Burn-in Disk. There is a 15 min track on there called, appropriately enough, "System Burn-in". The track consists of pink noise...

Oh isn't this fantastic--Yet another recommendation thread.

I have extensively used both Ety and Shure IEM's (ER-4P and E4c). They both sound great and do a fantastic job at isolation. When I bought the Shures they came with a wide variety of tips that give a varying amount of isolation, but the flanged rubber tips (like the Ety) give the best isolation...

Senn HD 650 AKG 701 Follow up

At the risk of stirring up those who think that burn-in is a conspiracy cooked up by persons unknown for reasons unknowable, the K701 needs 300+ hours of burn-in time. I don't know why. I don't care why. They just do. I've read a lot on this site about the K701, but anyone evaluating a set with...

    AKG K 701 owner's thread

For those who question burn-in, all I can say is that, in my experience with the K701, 300+ hours of burn-in turned them from "unlistenable" to "favorite". And it was not just due to becoming accustomed to them. During the burn-in period I listened to them <10 hours total, while listening...

Which one do you prefer, RS-1 or K701?

I have been a Grado lover for several years starting in '97 with a pair of SR-60's. I currently have a pair of SR-80's and a pair of SR-325's, that I like very well. I have listened extensively to a good friend's RS-1's. The RS-1's, while excellent, did not inspire me to upgrade from the 325's...

Recommendations for Best headphones on the market (new and old)

I'm listening to Les Violons du Roy and Bernard Labadie perform Vivaldi's Concerto for 2 violins in A minor from a Dorian CD ripped onto a Mac quad G5 (using the Apple Lossless codec) through a Mackie Onyx 400F to my new AKG K701's. So far they've got about 150 hours of burn-in on 'em and what...

Creek OBH-11SE Rev B Appreciation Tread

I enjoyed my OBH-11SE, but a while back it downed tools and refused to pass any signal, so it went on the shelf for a while. Always meant to get it fixed, but the headphone out on my Linn Majik worked well enough to get by (more than by actually, but anyway...) and, being a musician, there was...

    Roll Call for Team AKG

K701 - Currently driving me crazy as they break-in with continuous "System Burn-in" track from XLO/Reference Lab Test Disk. Well, nearly continuous, anyway. I do stop the madness every so often to check how they're coming along. Big improvement after 48 hours. At that point I checked them for...
