$18 JVC Marshmallow better than $140 Phonak Audeo PFE - how/why??!?!?!?

So is it my source hardware that's bad? Some of my mp3s were recorded from old cassettes, but some is from better quality CDs, downloads, etc... What can I do to improve it? Obviously I can't spend a ton of dough - if I need to budget $100-150, for example, which was what I was thinking if...

$18 JVC Marshmallow better than $140 Phonak Audeo PFE - how/why??!?!?!?

Apparently these marshmallows suck ****, or so you all say. I happen to like them - in fact I would say, especially for the price, they are better than the $140 Phonak Audeo PFEs I had before the JVCs. They sound just about as good, isolate about as well, AND has lasted about 5 months vs. 2...

Worst headphones you've ever heard? / Low-fi experiences?

What don't you like about the marshmallows? I have a pair and so far it has been much better for the money than the Phonak Audeo PFEs I had before them. They sound just about as good, and so far have lasted almost twice as long. They are the best that I have had under $20. As for the worst ones...

$18 JVC Marshmallow better than $140 Phonak Audeo PFE - how/why??!?!?!?

hk1388, I don't know if they would take mine back. For one thing the box is pretty badly mangled up from having been put somewhere where it was easily trampled. For another, look at some other threads/posts I've had on the subject - ppl were getting on me for not babying them - treating them...

$18 JVC Marshmallow better than $140 Phonak Audeo PFE - how/why??!?!?!?

Ok... so I've been on here periodically asking about recommendations for headphones to buy. For a while I had been using the Panasonic RP-HT355, but those were apparently being discontinued if I remember correctly, and I wanted better quality, more durable, better sounding/isolating, etc...

The description in this youtube video is interesting... YouTube - Audible notes from the subcontra (16-32 Hz) and hypercontra (8-16 Hz) octave

Do all closed back Headphones make ears hot?

I'm currently using IEMs (JVC Marshmallow), but for a while had gone through several pairs of Panasonic RP-HT355 headphones (and before that had a Sony MDR-360 which I just came across the other day). Quite often, especially while wearing my headphones outside on a summer day here several miles...

So is there an IEM under $130 shipped that is built to military-grade durability standards, sound decent (relative to similar or slighty lower priced ones), isolate well, and are easy to drive from portable unamped sources A clarification re: my bass preferences: When I mention good bass, I...

Looks like this maybe has been blown a bit out of proportion..... ok first off, the few times it has been caught in the bicycle gear, the bike was NOT operating - it was just sitting there, and I was standing beside the bike adjusting a few things, and the headphones fell off my ears and onto...

It's just that I'm absolutely sick of spending as much a year as I do on headphones and other things. A couple examples of things I have that have come closer to my expectations for how long an electronic device should last include my Panasonic RQ-SW20 cassette player (early 1990s vintage -...

...the left side audio channel and the cables of my Phonak Audeo PFEs. I had only had them 3 months and had expected them to last 15 years. Quick review / rating, IMO: overall sound quality - quite good compared to cheaper ones I've used. (I haven't listened for any length of time with...

    Phonak Audeo Defect Thread

Mine just lost sound in the left ear yesterday... lemme change the filter again and see what happens, but considering how badly the cable's cracked (and jackknifed on itself) I don't think it'll help.... and no, it didn't help. Also, I am using the large silicon ear tips, and they're still...

I don't think I'm nearly as rough on my things as the military is on theirs, and they IMO don't treat their equipment like crap. I DO try to take care of things, it's just that accidents can and do happen, like cords get tangled on a solidly anchored stationary object while I'm trying to sprint...

If I replace them with something else, then (assuming I get a refund) what would be recommended that's in their price range that don't have the problems I listed above, AND should last several years, in spite of being treated like military-grade equipment often gets treated?

I'm actually having problems with the cable insulation cracking on one of mine... (I have the black pair btw) You should be able to see the exposed wire. Also the ear guides won't stay on -- this pic was within a few seconds of installing the ear guide. Also the left side audio is...

Ok, so I've been using them for a while now.... and so far have gotten to like them for the most part, I think, except for a few things.... * the low (bottom to ~32 Hz) bass response seems to be a bit subdued for my tastes. (I haven't bought an amp yet like one of the $20 ones mentioned above...

Ok... looks like I should consider ordering the FiiO E5 then.... hey when you click the bass boost on it, what frequency range does it seem to boost? I don't like amps that boost the 100-250Hz (approximately the second G from the bottom of the piano to about middle C) range - that to me is upper...

They just arrived today. With the foam tips on them they have quite good isolation. I had a radio playing in the room when I put them on, and whereas before I put them on I could hear everything on the radio just fine, with them on the radio was very muffled, although I could still faintly...

The PFE has a 2-year warranty. I like to have my own music playing loud enough to drown out the sound of the drill that will be used on me while I'm in the dentist chair, and use earphones that can isolate out the sound, too. It's a little late now to push my dental appointment back another day...
