2017 European Product Design Awards, HE1000 Gets Silver
Agreed, but they should also offer "teddy treats" to help tailor the treble response to your liking. Not to mention, some wood colored caulk would be handy to repair the plywood cups if necessary.- Alphanewb

Breaking News: HE1000 V2
I could not agree more with this! In addition, HFM's QC is extremely poor. A close friend on another forum has posted numerous pictures of the hekv1 that are shocking for a $3000 headphone. I hope HFM starts to do a better job of standing by its customers vs what I have heard to date!- Alphanewb

Looking at those shoes reminds me that pad wear (call it break-in?) is real... when the pads break down / give in more over time there is a definite change in FR.- Alphanewb

MrSpeakers Alpha PRIME: Impressions and Discussion Thread
Thanks, I always figured that 2 watts into 32 ohms (over 1 watt into 50?) Would be more than enough. I'll have to try a more powerful amp to see for myself. Edited to add that I found a post elsewhere with a calculated 1.8 watt output at 50 ohms. Are you sure it's a "lack of power" you are...- Alphanewb

all true, but even if it is placebo, it can't be ignored. I believe it's a combination... ie; there are very minor audible differences that you perceive to be more favorable than they really are due in part to expectation bias. I know that my music sounds way better when I turn my amp on a few...- Alphanewb

Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
wow, this is some great information, thanks very much for posting! I keep waiting for an updated 650 to emerge but I should probably just buy one now... the weaknesses of my Alpha Dogs are really starting to bother me but I worry that a less expensive headphone won't be an upgrade... I was...- Alphanewb

I agree 100%, but the elear has a couple negative traits that can be bothersome which is why it's not a clear upgrade over the 650. Personally, I'd love to have the 650s tonality with elear fit and finish.- Alphanewb

Shure rejecting warranty claim.
I have ultimate ears superfi 3's that are 10 years old and the cables have similar oxidation but work just fine... no water is necessary for them to go green. Anyhow, I remember reading about serious quality issues with Shure headphones.- Alphanewb

Oppo HA-1 Impressions Thread
The mobile USB input is the one in front that works with apple devices and android (if you have an OTG cable). The rear USB input has no such limitations. Sounds like you are connecting via an OTG cable in front; in which case you are correct.- Alphanewb

BlackBerry Z30, as a music player.... one word
I just got a passport and was about to upgrade my onkyo hf player and/or purchase USB audio player pro to use my ha-1 with the passport. The link above was very helpful, thanks for posting. Is there any chance firmware and or OS updates will allow the passport and ha-1 to play nicely together...- Alphanewb

End of Life and Sale on Mad Dog and Alpha Headphones
More interesting than that is what will happen to the used market once the supply of new MDs/ADs/APs is cut off for good. Unless Mr. Speakers has new sub $1000 phones available I'd be surprised if you didn't see a rebound in pricing in the used market.- Alphanewb

MrSpeakers Ether Impressions Thread
This is a bit off topic; would you say the Ether is as good a match for the HA-1 as just about any other TOTL Headphone? I know that oppo recommends a minimum impedance of 30ohms and IIRC the Ether is in the 20's?- Alphanewb

Oppo HA-1 Impressions Thread
This is good info, my next (hopefully last major spend) will be some "end game" open headphones. The HD800s were recently on sale at a local Canadian online retailer for $1199 cad and I just about bit, but I was hesitant based on comments I've read regarding the 800s + ESS9018 + SS...- Alphanewb

Hello everyone, Its my first time posting in this thread so I'd like to thank everyone for their impressions, they really helped with my purchasing decision. I've had my HA-1 for about a week and wanted to chime in from a relative Newbie's perspective. First off, some back-ground...- Alphanewb

MrSpeakers Alpha PRIME: Impressions and Discussion Thread
That is exactly what I was thinking. Worst case, you would think that a donor Alpha Dog + a new TR50RP at wholesale (lets assume $100) + $999 (AP price) - $599 (AD price) = a suitable upgrade cost for an AD to AP upgrade. Unless of course the failure rate applies to another part of the...- Alphanewb

MrSpeakers Alpha PRIME: Impressions and Discussion Thread
I agree. But I don't think I phrased my original question all that well. I understand the upgrade process would involve sending your AD's to Mr. Speakers and that the failure rate of modifying an AD's driver is too high. I understand that a $420 upgrade fee (as offered early on, on a test...- Alphanewb

Please forgive what may be a dumb/obvious question... My first truly "hi fi" headphone was/is the Alpha Dog which I acquired a couple months before the Prime was announced. I'm enjoying the AD but would definitely be upgrading if it were an option. And I would be willing to pay...- Alphanewb

need help - small, high power ss amp - Violectric vs. LakePeople for MrSpeakers AlphaDogs
Great, I'm relatively new to head-fi and have found that research is half the fun so I'm getting started early... MrSpeakers Alpha Dog Revealed! - The World's First Production 3D-Printed Headphones
So I've messed around a bit with my Alpha Dogs and have settled on a 15 degree turn of the pads along with one tuning disc per side.
