    Audeze Mobius review / impressions

After a week of listening to music with the Mobius almost exclusively, here are my impressions in no particular order. These impressions are only about the sound quality and functionality with a smartphone for music only, not games or other applications. Finally, with USB-C or Bluetooth, I...

The Official 64 Audio Thread | apex & tia Technologies

Ordered during Black Friday and the production started Dec. 1. The Christmas holiday (and the BF sale) slowed the process down I suspect.

The Official 64 Audio Thread | apex & tia Technologies

Finally, my pair of A12t has arrived! My custom artwork on the faceplate turned out to be better than I thought it would be. My earliest impression is that it sounds sparkly and the bass is well controlled, as one should expect at this price, otherwise it would be a rip. Aimer's ninelie sounds...

The Official 64 Audio Thread | apex & tia Technologies

The struggle is real! My pair went into production on Dec. 1. I think this will be my last CIEM purchase for good (in general, not just 64 Audio).

Astell & Kern KANN - DAP with Massive Storage & Battery

My two cents about the KANN, and comparison to the Onkyo DP-X1: As much as I love the Onkyo DP-X1, there are fatal flaws that made me consider purchasing the KANN: it's susceptible to lint and dust getting under its screen, and the battery life is really bad even with the screen turned off. I...

Astell & Kern KANN - DAP with Massive Storage & Battery

The PNY 512GB SD card and the SanDisk 200GB micro SDXC card works with the KANN. To play it safe, I formatted both cards in the KANN.

Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!

It's been a looooong wait, but here's my belated Christmas 2015/early Christmas 2016 present from me to me. I'm now waiting for Best in the Verse IEM cable in matching red and blue paracords.     I'd like to thank Brannan and Sunny for this wonderful pair and for being patient with my...

Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!

Fantastic design as always! Man I think I've mentioned this before, I can't wait for my K10. I've been waiting since the week of Christmas, and these new year holidays are making the wait a bit unbearable not gonna lie. But I'll try to remain patient and hope it is worth the long wait.

Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!

Whoa whoa whoa... let's not bring heavy topics in here...   Anywayz, the waiting struggle for K10 customs is still very real and this Chinese New Year holiday break is not helping! lol

    ONKYO DP-X1 | Dual Sabre Dacs | Balanced | Sabre BTL Amp | MQA | DSD 256 | Android 5 |

That's a steal, considering the retail price is $900 USD. I paid $700 including shipping and fees, no customs/duty, but I'm still glad I "saved" $200. haha

    ONKYO DP-X1 | Dual Sabre Dacs | Balanced | Sabre BTL Amp | MQA | DSD 256 | Android 5 |

Yeah, this is bad. My brightness control works on my DP-X1. At its lowest brightness, I can barely see anything due to glare, unless I'm in complete darkness.   Sorry, I have no solutions if you tried absolutely everything, including factory reset.

    ONKYO DP-X1 | Dual Sabre Dacs | Balanced | Sabre BTL Amp | MQA | DSD 256 | Android 5 |

Well, these are essentially (let's not get it twisted, I'm speaking in general terms) smartphone apps in a non-smartphone device, and Onkyo has never bothered to do this in their original HF Player app, and all I'm saying is that it shouldn't be surprising.   Anyway, if Onkyo ever bothers...

    ONKYO DP-X1 | Dual Sabre Dacs | Balanced | Sabre BTL Amp | MQA | DSD 256 | Android 5 |

Wow this thread has taken a turn. I'm not gonna defend Onkyo or any company for shipping a broken product but some of the concerns to me aren't really errors on Onkyo's part but more like missed opportunities for Onkyo to improve on. For example:   (1) Lack of access to folders or directories...

    AUDEZE LCD XC

I've listened with my XC outdoors from time to time but I won't recommend it to others unless they're also crazy like me. :D

    ONKYO DP-X1 | Dual Sabre Dacs | Balanced | Sabre BTL Amp | MQA | DSD 256 | Android 5 |

I read that article last night. There was speculation that it's gonna be $900 USD a few months ago. I wouldn't pay nearly a grand for a music player, however I did pay $700 USD (that includes $70 service fee from BuySmartJapan and $30 EMS shipping).   The only reason to buy locally is for...

    ONKYO DP-X1 | Dual Sabre Dacs | Balanced | Sabre BTL Amp | MQA | DSD 256 | Android 5 |

It does not have native DSD playback. It converts to PCM default at 48kHz, except if you use upsampling mode.

    ONKYO DP-X1 | Dual Sabre Dacs | Balanced | Sabre BTL Amp | MQA | DSD 256 | Android 5 |

So I'm messing around with the DP-X1 with my iFi micro iDSD and was pleasantly surprised how flawless it hooked up. Last Android device I tried connecting with the iDSD was my old HTC One M8 and that was disastrous. Anyway here are some screenshots. When I hooked up the iDSD to the DP-X1 (make...

    ONKYO DP-X1 | Dual Sabre Dacs | Balanced | Sabre BTL Amp | MQA | DSD 256 | Android 5 |

You need to be a little bit more patient. The DP-X1 reads fast, but not that fast. I usually leave the Automatic checkbox ON, and only click Sync Now (then Sync All) once and let it scan. I have two 200 GB cards and it scanned all of my FLAC and DSF files no problem. It even read my m3u...

Pioneer's first DAP, the XDP-100R announced in IFA

There is no folder browsing with Pioneer/Onkyo's default player. If you need folder browsing, there are third party apps but I'm not certain those apps will utilize Pioneer's DAC.

    ONKYO DP-X1 | Dual Sabre Dacs | Balanced | Sabre BTL Amp | MQA | DSD 256 | Android 5 |

Haha, I did say "kinda sucks", implying "well, it is what it is." I leave it in upsampling mode all the time for no reason really, but if/when I transfer lossy into this thing, I'll just turn upsampling mode off.   It's probably also Android being Android, gonna have to live with it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    ONKYO DP-X1 | Dual Sabre Dacs | Balanced | Sabre BTL Amp | MQA | DSD 256 | Android 5 |

That's probably it then: mp3 files don't play nicely with the DP-X1.   Kinda sucks because I have some files in lossy format (thanks iTunes). I haven't transferred those files into the DP-X1 yet, but knowing now about the crash, I have to be mindful to not play lossy files in upsampling mode.

    ONKYO DP-X1 | Dual Sabre Dacs | Balanced | Sabre BTL Amp | MQA | DSD 256 | Android 5 |

Does it crash when you play mp3s in upsampling mode? Or does it crash even when you play FLAC files?
