Audeze LCD-2.2 vs LCD-3 ?!
In regards to recommended equipment for either the LCD-2 or 3(I have the 2's), I use the headphone output of my Oppo blu ray player and it sounds great. I don't know why the headphone cord has four separate conductors though, when the plug has only three (left, right, and common negative). If...- Banman

Do you guys feel COMPELLED to listen to music since you bought nice headphones?
Yes, I can totally relate. You want to think that you're getting your money's worth out of your purchase. It's hard to justify a $500 pair of headphones when they're sitting collecting dust, haha....- Banman

HiFiMAN HE-500 = Waste of Money (and general discussion)
I must say that your statements were quite "educational" to me. Firstly, I had no idea that I was immature because I enjoy healthy amounts of bass in my music at the age of 46. I owe you a debt of gratitude for opening my eyes to that fact. Secondly, you've made me aware that good bass...- Banman

JVC HA-FX850 iem. Woody
I found an interesting pair of tips that work really well. They are like two in one, double stacked so that the first slips over the drivers and the second gets in deeper into the ear canal for improved perceived bass response. To tame the treble, I just pulled out the little wire mesh...- Banman

HiFiMAN RE-600 Review
Are the bi flanges the ones that I'm using, that look like the old rubber ear plugs, with two bowl shaped flanges on one central tube? They came with my 600's. There were two sets of them, both the same size, in the box the earphones were in. Y'know what though? After finding how much I dig...- Banman

HiFiMAN RE-600 Review
I just got mine today and am enjoying them immensely as I type! It'll be a tough choice between these and JVC's ha-fx850. I like that the re600 has flatter treble, but it needed a little boost in the bass department (just up to 3 on my fiio x3 instead of 2). Does anyone know, by the way, if...- Banman

Q701 impressions thread
Are you talking about for home or travel? For home use, I like the sound straight out of my Oppo blu ray player headphone out, or my (admittedly el-cheapo) Bravo tubed headphone amp, which can drive any headphone with authority to spare.- Banman

HiFiMAN RE-600 Review
Thanks a lot! I already have them on order, and will sell the ones that I like lesser of the two on usaudiomart. I'm hoping I'll like the re600 more, because I could get more money for the hafx 850!- Banman

HiFiMAN RE-600 Review
Thank you for the comparison! I have the 850's and love them, but the treble is a bit "treblesome" at times, so if the re600's are more neutral that's great. They won't be used jogging anyway... mainly during tv shows my wife watches that I don't like (Hell's Kitchen, etc.) haha...- Banman

HiFiMAN RE-600 Review
Hi, and thanks for the in-depth review! Are you familiar with JVC's HA-FX 850, and if so, do the 600s best them in your opinion? Thanks!- Banman

Any time I have to remove a small amount of lint or hair, I just take some scotch tape and roll it around my fingers sticky-side-out and keep touching the offending material until it's all stuck to the tape. Works great for sweaters, coats, etc. although for larger items of course your roller...- Banman

Q701 impressions thread
I have one of those for my Grado 325is in yellow, to match my yellow flat pads. Here's what I did to my Quincy Joneses: (See info. below) First though, I used a couple of cable ties to cinch that annoying rubber strap to the wire arches to make for a more comfortable fit. Mary's...- Banman

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners
Mine aren't really vintage, but I have a pair of JVC "Dynamic Super-A" class RX-817V receivers that are top notch, and I've had them for nearly 20 years. Their rated output is conservatively stated as being 105 watts/channel, while maintaining distortion levels at a whopping .007%. That's 1/4th...- Banman

JVC HA-FX850 iem. Woody
Well, like I said, I tried all the different tips they provided. The two pairs of foam tips had the opposite effect of what I'd thought they'd have: the music was tinny and awful, with no bass and very little high treble. The larger of the (silicone?) tips fit a bit tight, and do add a little...- Banman

Tube dampers
I hope someone is still following this thread. I was going to either use the Herbie dampers or silicone O-rings, but when I took the lid off of my preamp, I noticed that 3 of the 4 tubes have metal "shields" over them, and after taking them off, I saw that there are springs in the ends of them...- Banman

JVC HA-FX850 iem. Woody
Thanks! I think it has more to do with the revealing nature of these ear phones. I wa used to my Beyers which have a recessed upper midrange and so listening to the same music, these can come off as harsh in some spots, just by comparison. I'll give it a try though if they keep "harshing my...- Banman

Yeah, right now I've been enjoying my new AKG quincy joneses, but even after uncovering the bassports they are a little bit bass shy, but they make up for it with awesome detail and frequency response, and very spacious sound. They beat my grado 325ises, no problem imo. These AKGs though, are...- Banman

You're quite right; the difference in sound between the different tips is much more than I had thought it might be. The foam tips (both sizes JVC supplied) were horrible. Very tinny and distant sounding and with very little if any bass. The smaller of the silicon tips would just fall right out...- Banman

Amping for AKG Q701
Yes, I meant the Bravo V1, because it can use the excellent e88cc tube. I made sure of that befre buying, because I already had some of those tubes. Normally, I listen to headphones at home anyway, so I use the headphone jack on my Oppo blu ray player. But for any headphone (such as the...- Banman

My ears are just sensitive to upper midrange. It depends on the source too, of course. But I'm not a bass-head either; I do like the bass and mid-bass to be full and well articulated but in proportion. I do love these earphones. They come as close to perfection as any headphones I've tried so far.- Banman
