I'm sorry but I can't help it. A Sony DAP reminds me very much of this poem: A-Lecture-On-The-Cube Years of research, painfully selecting hardware, materials, software, creating that lovely screen saver with a running cassette, the volume knob etc - all this hard work and OCD attention to...- revenge

Holsen, I am pleased you like the AM2. I agree that it is a very significant upgrade over 707 and, as I said above, I believe that for the price difference, AM2 is a no brainer. 707 sounds like a DAP, and not a great one at that. AM2 is proper hifi in your pocket. The sound will not improve...- revenge

The issue is not only max volume (peak) but the amount of time your ears are exposed to a certain volume. You can spend something like 8 hours at 65 dB but only 30 minutes are safe at 85dB. I don’t remember the exact numbers but they are in the ballpark. Because of the wide dynamic range of...- revenge

If I would be to go back to analog today I would be hard pressed to pick vinyl over, for instance, a Nakamichi Dragon, or a Revox tape recorder. They were beautiful machines, over-engineered, built to last forever and they sounded superb. About 10 years ago we did some tests because I had a...- revenge

To give the Dutch credit, Philips coined “the compact disc” term and started work, independently from Sony, in the late 70’s, based on earlier work by Russell and an Italian, forgot his name - Rabbiani? I had quite a bad experience with Alpha 7R II. The camera would randomly freeze (known problem). The sensor would get dirty easily because the lens mount was flimsy, a sandwich having plastic underneath a metal plate and only held together by four screws. Heavy zoom lenses would pull the metal...- revenge

Had the Sony MDR-Z1000. I didn't hate it, it was an easy listen but it didn't excel in any department so I sold it. I did like the fit and finish very much though. I tested two or three generations of their active Bluetooth headphones - overwhelming bass, not detailed / transparent enough for...- revenge

Well, I don't want to completely derail the conversation but my understanding is that EU laws now prohibit the sale of non-capped players and I think the limit is 100dB. So said Chinese players should not be marketed in EU / UK in the first place. Arguably if you purchase such a device from, say...- revenge

Has anybody put a cap of how many units of alcohol you can drink daily? Or how many cigarettes you can smoke? We educate people to use them in moderation but we don’t cap / ban habits that lead to cancer, cirrhosis etc. We don’t curb pollution. We continue to sell junk in supermarkets and there...- revenge

How is ZM2 compared to AM2? I understand that the main hardware differences are the more rigid case (copper) and higher quality internal wiring (Kimber). I will sell my 707 so wondering if the ZM2 justifies the premium over AM2.- revenge

"Ignorant YouTubers" are looking at a DAP from the perspective of someone who spends 700$ to use said DAP with whatever headphones they like and I think it is a very reasonable expectation. For around the same price you can get a RME ADI 2 which is a lot of DAC for the money with proper AKM...- revenge

I think Apple has done a huge disservice to this small and enthusiastic headphone community and not only that. I think the sound signature has nothing to do with the output power. It would be relevant if you would use a planar or a high impedance pair of headphones but for IEMs it doesn't really make a difference, as long as you adjust the volume for the same output in dB. It is not the low power that...- revenge

Yep, the translation is so so but essentially what I value most in a source these days is natural timbres, a smooth, refined, analogue-like presentation.
