FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Nuforce uDAC USB DAC AMP with line out and S/PDIF out
Just finished auditioning the uDac (bought it for a friend in France) and like many others here, I am impressed. My first listen with a DAC, and all of a sudden, my netbook became a top level player. I had no idea. It's good to learn new things. I will be ordering one when they show up on Amazon...- tstarn06

Klipsch Image S4?
Though I gave my S4s to a good friend, I did like them. Keep burning them in past 100 hours. I didn't use EQ with them. I am one of those fools who believe the S4s are a very good IEM for the price, but require a lot of "break in" or whatever you want to call it.- tstarn06

Monster Turbine Pro vs. IE8
Yeah, I think they had two pair. Just kidding. But at least that's all I can discern of HFers getting them at that price (playingwithfire is the only other HFer I know who got them from the newegg deal). They said 5 limit per buyer, but I doubt they had many. So yes, the "halo effect" of getting...- tstarn06

Monster Turbine Pro vs. IE8
No, you can't. And since I paid $118 with the newegg open box special, you can understand why I like them even more. Just to explain my POV more, I had the IE7s after the IE8, and just could not get a good fit and found them fairly unexciting. I sold the IE8 because I detested the fit, I...- tstarn06

Amen to that. Not that I am on the level of an AV Guide reviewer, but I owned both the IE7 and the Custom 3s, and each one lasted about a week at my house before I sold them. I had the IE8 too, and it stayed around longer, but not much longer. Also, I would not say Monster makes ovepriced...- tstarn06

Excellent suggestion. There are so many caveats with all these phones (mods, tip choices, etc.) it is getting very hard to keep track, esp for anyone new entering the scene. I think this thread really points the tip/fit/preference issues out more than any I've seen on HF.- tstarn06

hifiman re252 vs audiotechnica ck10
I can echo Joker and Jant7 on their appraisal of the RE252s and the CK10s. I didn't care for the RE252s more because of the design than the SQ. I could never get used to the gummy bear design, and that sort of colored my view of them. If they had been more like the RE0 design-wise, I might have...- tstarn06

Audio Technica ATH-CK10
I tried out the Monster tri-flanges last night, and to me, they are not a go. They caused some treble sibilance, and when I switched back to the Shures, I was back to being happy. Goes to show you how tips vary so much. Tempted to try those AT foamies if they have some lasting power, but $9 a...- tstarn06

Meelectronics cheapies, amazing for the price
Well, after 30 mins of listening to the uDac through my netbook, this is my next purchase. I dare say I think it sounds better than the Sony X or my other DAPs, for example. I haven't even tried it with a decent amp yet either, just HP out via the USB cable. I am impressed. Back to M9.- tstarn06
