The Stax Thread III
You should be able to hear significant differences with the KGSSHV. Once upon a time, I used to use a pair of 007mk2 with a 006tA, then after moving to the KGSSHV, sound and texture was much more improved, with a certain sparkle to it, and pronounced/controlled bass that the 006tA was not able...- hfhimeka

The Stax Thread III
Not sure if this is still a relevant issue for recent hardware, but Japan uses XLR pin 2 for hot and pin 3 for cold, while some older XLR equipment in USA might still use pin 2 for cold and pin 3 for hot signal. You might run into some issues if you end up grounding the wrong signal when going...- hfhimeka

Which tubes made more significant improvement to sound on the T2 when tube rolling? The input or output tubes?- hfhimeka

The Stax Thread III
You actually got me thinking and bring up a good point. Anyone ever seen 007MK2 with SZ2-0xxx or SZ3-0xxx? I googled around and it seems like everything that shows up is always >1000.- hfhimeka

The Stax Thread III
The Stax on demo at the Akihabara Yodobashi Camera store are all hooked up to Marantz SACD players. They all have USB ports on the front. I used to bring my own usb cable and audition via my phone's songs. They used to have the same equipment on demo in Shinjuku.. but it looks like they...- hfhimeka

Grado Fan Club!
Looks like the numbers inside have designations for left and right sides as well. By the way, the cushioned headband on the GH1 is the same one as that came with my transitional RS1/RS1e model. Maybe they had leftover stock after moving onto the brown headbands..- hfhimeka

Grado Fan Club!
Just received the GH1's today as well. These are night and day when compared against the RS1e drivers... the latter just sounding muffled and veiled--no competition. Compared to my PS500s.. the GH1 are definitely brighter (but not 325 shrilly), vocals have more texture and definition...- hfhimeka

Classifying versions of the RS1: Your Guide (Work in Progress)
I have a pair of the Grado RS1i with the red 50mm drivers and with the new mahogany wood housing. However, they are still terminated with the 1/4 inch jack. I wonder if there are several different combinations of these transitioning headphones.- hfhimeka

Grado e Series
Yup. They came out at around the tail end of production of the chrome SR325IS and chrome PS1000. I recall reading somewhere about QC and yield issues with the chrome..- hfhimeka

Grado e Series
I guess both cases are valid and combination of G-Cush on the PS500 as well as more efficient drivers on the RS1 "Red" probably amplified the differences. I guess time to swap back out the G-Cush for more a-b'ing! I probably put about 5-7 hours on the RS1 "Red" now (my earlobes hurt) and it's...- hfhimeka

Grado e Series
I recently acquired a pair of Grado RS1i's with the new RS1e red drivers sold by the previous owner who put barely 5 hours on the cans and decided to want to switch to IEMs. Apparently he bought these headphones approximately 5 months ago (~Feb), so these may have been very early RS1e drivers...- hfhimeka

Grado PS500s (new Grado's)
According to Grado, the PS500e drivers should have been updated to 44mm from 40mm. Perhaps someone with the PS500 red driver can take a measurement. That would confirm that these are indeed pre-production E type or maybe some sort of hybrid between the PS500 and PS500e.- hfhimeka

Grado PS500s (new Grado's)
I haven't seen anyone ever mention this, but has anyone ever noticed that the headphone serial number is also inscribed on the back of the plastic piece that designates L and R?- hfhimeka

Grado Fan Club!
Quote: Unfortunately, I did not. I was only able to test drive the PS500 / RS1i since half of the audio stores in Tokyo have sellable headphones all out on display for you to listen to your heart's content. That being said, I agree with a comment I read previously that these two...- hfhimeka

Sony MDR-CD900ST, why don't these get more love?
I've owned a pair of CD900ST for about 9 years now. There was a time I did a comparison with the V6, and while both sound similar, the CD900ST produces a slightly more flatter / sterile sound vs the V6/7506. On physical inspection, the pads are different as well--the CD900ST has slightly...- hfhimeka

First pair of over-ear headphones
I would suggest the SR-60--great sound and easy to drive. I had 2 different friends who had the HD280s.. both complained about the lack of bass. I presume that the HD280s will require an amp in order to fully utilize it...- hfhimeka

Grado Fan Club!
Recently upgraded to a pair of PS500's after having used the SR-60s for several years. The choice between the RS1i and the PS500 was quite hard! Both headphones exhibit different sound signatures, but in the end I thought the RS1i was a bit too shrilly to listen to for extensive periods...- hfhimeka
