Mytek Stereo96 DAC
I've been asked about the Mytek Stereo96 DAC a few times by PM, so I'm posting some comments here. There are 3 versions of the DAC: the original with AES and SPDIF in, the 2nd version with 2x SPDIF, AES, and Toslink in, and now a third version that adds USB in and some other new features. (not...- Headphony

Berkeley Audio Design USB2 to AES3 Converter
I emailed Berkeley Audio Design to inquire about the possibility of a new Alpha DAC with asynchronous USB input. Not in the works, but it seems they are working on a USB to AES converter. Here is part of the response I got from Michael Ritter: Could be a very good computer to DAC solution.- Headphony

HD650: Tubes vs Solid-State
I know the topic has been discussed plenty before, but I'm really dumb-founded by all of the recommendations for tube amps for HD650's. IMO, HD650's are one of the few phones that I would not want to listen to with a tube amp at all. Yes, that might be an over-simplification, since there are...- Headphony

Abrahamsen V6 DAC
Here's an interesting new DAC in the works: As I understand, Per Abrahamsen is one of the founders of Electrocompaniet, and he is involved with this relatively new company Abrahamsen. I recently picked up an Abrahamsen V2.0 integrated amp, which sounds very nice.- Headphony

Mini-notebooks / Netbooks
I've been thinking about picking up one of these mini-notebooks for storage, player, and transport for a mini-system hooked up to a DAC/amp and phones. (Asus Eee PC, Acer Aspire One, Dell E, HP Mini Note, MSI Wind) Two concerns: 1) My main concern is noise from the unit. I read that the HP...- Headphony

Weird Foobar FLAC Problem
Here's the deal: I have recently started ripping CD's to FLAC using CDEX. When playing them in Foobar they sound great, but weird things happen: * No progress is shown in the track slider bar. * All tracks are shown to be 3:22:54 long. * Weird values for kpbs are shown. (12kbps, 17kbps...- Headphony

Didgeridoo Music
I was chilling out today to Sheila Chandra - ABoneCroneDrone, and thought it would be interesting to pick up some Didgeridoo based music. For those who don't know what that is, here's the wikipedia entry for that instrument: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Didgeridoo I fairly randomly picked... -
Neil Young - Living With War
A new "Metal folk protest?" album from Neil Young, "Living With War". Anybody heard? I'm not a big fan of Neil's latest stuff, but this should rock. It will stream from his website starting on Friday. http://www.neilyoung.com/ -
Sennheiser HD650 amp - Corda Aria vs Marantz SR4600
I have Senn HD 650's on the way from Germany and I also have my heart set on a Corda Aria to drive them. This is probably a no-brainer, but would the HD 650's be anywhere near fully satisfying straight from my Marantz SR 4600 av-receiver headphone out? I couldn't find any specs on the headphone...- Headphony
