Best Studio Headphones
Absolutely! Tyll's measurements just lend context to the polarizing nature of the 7520's. Because I love them, and many here love them. But I read plenty of head-scratching reviews written by disappointed people confused at the cans' praise. It's enough to sprinkle asterisks over my...- Kierkes

Still love my 7520's, but on seeing Tyll's measurements I'm now pretty hesitant to recommend them. I still think I'll keep them and use them as I have, since they worked just fine before I knew how wonky they apparently are.- Kierkes

[Review] NVX EX10s, another solid offering from a new audio company
Bump. I had resigned myself to shelling (hah) out for customs, since I have very pronounced differences in the shape of the opening of my ear canals. Between the tips and the rotating nozzle, I have found the pair for me. The cable is just south of perfect (a little springy and sensitive to...- Kierkes

Sony MDR-7520
The correlation between soundstage and imaging is surprisingly loose. I'm with everyone on the narrow soundstage of the 7520. Yet, the imaging is excellent. Similar experience with my occasional trysts with the Sennheiser HD600/650's. Contrast that with the enormous soundstage of the AKG/AT...- Kierkes

Wow, thanks for the link! I've never heard the Z1000 so a comparison means nothing to me. Still, that frequency graph of the 7520 is a nice thing to have seen, considering how much I like the headphone. I put the original pads back on. I decided that they were worth the slight discomfort. As...- Kierkes

Yeah, I think there isn't a lot of demand because the Z1000 has a graph, and people have that misconception that Z1000 = 7520.- Kierkes

I haven't noticed too much difference in the bass actually. The change, on the whole, is very subtle. The pads are roughly the same size as stock, but deeper. They do have a thicker rim, so there might be some taco-ing with really large ears. I have relatively big ears, though, and it's not an...- Kierkes

No problem! :) I've read a bunch of these posts. I don't see how you'd get any kind of thread into the joint. I'll take some lubricant to them at some point. Also, for those of you who are interested in the DT250 pads, I just stuck the Pearstone velour pads on there. Don't quote me on...- Kierkes

Just to be clear, I'm not talking about the twine around/the lubrication inside the gimbals. I've taken care of that problem already with lithium grease. I'm referring to farther up where the cups rotate slightly from front to back along the joint where the headband meets the cup arm. ...- Kierkes

Okay, so I've opened the cups up and applied lithium grease to the inside of the gimbals. Thing is, the headphone still squeaks along the other axis, where the cup arms meet the headband. Anyone else have this issue?- Kierkes

I LOVE the design, and from a listening perspective (I also consider studio perspectives) this checks all my boxes. Still, I can't get over this design; subtle retrofuturism is irresistible!- Kierkes

I'm really glad you love the 7506's, Chaniyth! As I said, they're a fine pair, but I just couldn't use them. I'm also glad you're one of the lucky few for whom it fits well on. I could not get any bass out of them myself. You're probably not going to find any 7520's in person without buying...- Kierkes

Just did the Golden Ears Challenge myself. Those mp3 artifacts are a PITA. And I had trouble with the high cut until I started listening to the hi-hats instead of the vocals.- Kierkes

Yeah, none of those small portables (Babyface, Duet (2), Forte, Track16, etc.) have a lot of redundancy. It must be a pain if one of them doesn't line up spec wise. Thanks for the post, Studio Sound. I didn't know that before!- Kierkes

Ahh. I see. Yeah, it's a TRRS. But I'm running it into studio equipment and it's not causing me any issues. It shouldn't be a problem. Anyone else wanna weigh in on this?- Kierkes

I don't follow. Are you referring to that boom cable they have? I have the one with the small inline microphone, and I know they also have a plain cable, although it's a bit longer. The SpeakEasy cable I have is the perfect length. Just north of 4'- Kierkes
