Why are the MDR-7520's illegal in the UK?!

They were pulled from the European market due to being too efficient. The Sound Pressure Level they can obtain for a given input is too high.

Some data for 7520:
Power rating: 4W
Maximum obtainable SPL: 144dB
Power needed for reaching 120dB: 20mW
Voltage needed for reaching 120dB: 0.6V
Current needed for reaching 120dB: 26mA

You are not gonna find many headphones capable of the above.

just back from a long day at the laundry, again with the 7520 but this time using the beyer pads in place of the alpha dog i took last time which i found so boomy i had to slant the can opener eq ramped from its lowest bass to its highest treble just to stay flat.  The beyers were simply amazing and I was able to completely turn off all EQ and it still sounded perfect.  Comfortable for the entire time great at blocking the outside and with an exceptional soundstage.  With these pads the 7520 once again has a place in the stable.  Very happy with the Beyers. Def the pads the headphone should have come with.  They even fit like a glove and look stock.

Which specific Beyerdynamic pads did you use?

Thanks.

Beyer 250 pads in velour, the end game pads for the 7520 in my opinion.  nothing else even comes close. ticks all the boxes.

Thankyou, will give it a try, they are fairly easy to obtain Beyer pads unlike Sony's actual pads.
Were did you order yours from out of interest and also could you post a photo of your 7520's with the Beyer pads on please ; )

Also the velour won't sweat after a while like the leather pads which is a plus.
