Time for me to give these DT250 pads a shot too. Will post my impressions after I've listened to them a while.

Cable request!
Can anyone link me to a good replacement cable to use with the 7520?
I need a flexible, straight and light cable, fabric/cloth braided, 2 x mini stereo jack. I've searched a bit but I'm hoping you have some good recommendations. Please :)

For wireless usage of the MDR-7520, I was thinking of using a JDS Labs Ultra Short 3.5mm Interconnect Cable for $5 (ordered direct from http://www.jdslabs.com/products/146/ultra-short-3-5mm-interconnect-cable/ , and slightly more suitable than the Oyaide HPC-MSS, FiiO L8 or FiiO L16) and a Bluetooth receiver with aptX (of course, not compatible with iDevices): either the Samsung HS3000 for $50 or the LG BTS1 for $90 (which, though a little dearer, has a more convenient button layout for my tastes).

Has anyone tried these combinations?

For wired usage, I'll be following in the footsteps of several people in this thread and use the V-MODA BoomPro Microphone for $30 (for gaming), the V-MODA 1-Button SpeakEasy Cable for $15 (for general purpose applications), and the V-MODA 1/8" to 1/4" Adapter V2 for $5 (for DJ mixers and other devices that have a 6.35mm jack. Unlike third-party adapters, it is guaranteed to work with the V-MODA TRRS plug input: http://v-moda.com/compatibility ). As an alternative to storing the Adapter in my pocket, I could instead use the lanyard from $5 Beats Pro replacement cables to attach it (I've searched and enquired and it seems not to be available as a standalone piece of rubber):

Heads up, another excellent priced 7520 on B&H used dept. Condition is 9/10 with box damage, probably a new phone..

such a great deal that they are now gone.  Any idea on the price?

It was $250. It's gone because last evening I decided to give them another shot   They should be here Wednesday. Hopefully this one isn't as hot between 6-7k as the last one.

The PipeLine ET-4 cables are the best bang-for-the-buck 3.5mm cables that fit your requirements that I know of.  They were made by Audioquest exclusively for RadioShack a while back and are now discontinued. The only downside is they are not that flexible but I've been able to live with them without any significant problems.

The V-Moda Audio Only cable should also work well and might be a little more flexible than the PipeLine.

A thicker but somewhat more flexible cable that would also work well are the Audioquest Golden Gate, Big Sur or Syndey 3.5mm cables.  These cables are much more expensive and are available in lengths from .6m up to 5m.

Steve Guttenberg did a review of the 7520 in Sound&Vision magazine (December). I don't see it on their website. Very favorable.

I'm still enjoying it everyday :) Although soon it'll start getting competition from the JH13 I ordered.

Yeah, very favorable review indeed (page 18, gets a full page "Hands On"). They don't put their new issue content up on their site for a bit, as an incentive to buy the magazine in print or digital edition.

His key points were comparisons to the NAD Viso HP50 and the Shure 1540. He found the 7520 more detailed and accurate than the HP50 (this is certainly the case from listening before). He thought the 1540 had more low end "oomph" but that the 7520 had tighter, faster bass.  I haven't heard the 1540...but that doesn't shock me. I haven't heard a closed back, non-planar that can reach as low with as much speed and tightness as the 7520. (The Beyerdynamic DT1350, with a good seal, is the closest I've heard. The Fostex TH900 too, but I'm disqualifying them for 'magnetic-repulsion' driver hax.)

Looking forward to giving them another chance.
