  This setup also works instead of double amping from the headphone out.    Though I must say that I'm not surprised by by-passing the amp section, it sounded much more laid back and linear compared to playing it directly it out from the headphone out compared from to the ALO's new Rx.

Given the price of the EML rectifiers, you can get a nice mighty 596 with adapters at a lower cost. That was the route I went when I had my WA6-SE anyway and it paired nicely with 6FD7 tubes with most headphones in the market.

Been trying this setup the last couple of days, Sophia 274B + 2A3 and cyroset 6N1P. The results have been good as the setup seems to portray warm and lush sounding on the HD800 though it seems to lack the bass punch.   Not sure if it is me but the NOS RCA 5U4G with Sophia 2A3 does not sound so...

Just has my earpads for the HD800 after it was used slightly over a year. Can definitely that having new pads does change the sound sonically (in a good way).

Thanks for the feedback and confidence regarding the cryoset, might just consider getting them it is certainly on the cheaper alternative compared to the pearl cryo.

When I bought the 596 about 9 months back, it was hovering around $110-$150 each. Congrats on getting the mighty 596! When I got mine with my WA6-SE, I rarely swapped back to the Sophia 274B/Mullard GZ34 as it had became my reference
