SONY NW-ZX2

Hi,

I received my replacement ZX2 today and all is good- it wasn't opened/used and I haven't noticed the buzzing that I experienced with the other unit.

One thing that I don't like is the case that comes with it ( all the accessories are a little anemic!)

I have been looking online for a replacement and have found this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OFFICIAL-Sony-Walkman-Leather-case-CKL-NWZX2-for-NW-ZX2-Japan-Free-Shipping-/281663975482?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item41947b303a

Does anyone have this case or have any recommendations for a decent replacement?

Also, does it matter what type of SD card you use? I have heard Sony have a specialist SD card for audio equipment. Is this necessary or superfluous?

That's the case I use and I think it's fantastic, great protection, look and access to the side controls. Pricey but worth it in my opinion.

Thanks! I think that is the one I am going to go for. Where did you get yours from? The cheapest I can find it for was on Ebay but that was still £70 and before customs/import taxes ( it is being shipped from Japan)

FYI, Installed Nova Launcher Prime (the paid version) and it is a much improvement over the stock launcher. It has the material design look of Android Lollipop, plus a huge bonus, it allows you to delete home screens. Now I have only one home screen, basically same layout as stock with media icons (music playback, video playback, sound adjustment, and DLNA) in the app drawer, the 4x3 Media widget, and Google Serarch on top.

Also installed Day Joy 9H Tempered Glass screen protector today. Easy installation, thanks to audioxxx, for the installation tips. This screen protector is absolutely awesome repels oils and smudges; no more constantly wiping the screen (yeah, I have OCD, lol).
I was on the fence buying this tempered glass, will have to order it now, did you have to remove the hi-res sticker, and where you able to reinstall it on the tempered glass.

I use that one as well and it is near perfect for me. The leather is sleek and slides nicely in pockets, the top side of the flap has a magnet. Side buttons easily accessible for blind manipulation.
While I don't know how effective it would absorb a shock if it fell to a hard ground, the thickness feels just right and reassuringly strong, matching that feeling when I hold the ZX2 itself.
If Sony ever decides to make a revision of it, the only improvements I'd desire is an additional magnet on the bottom right corner, although I understand why it's only on the top side now, it is easier to flip open with your thumb from the bottom.
It could've been nice If the flap bend on the the left side was more flexible so you would be able to latch the flap to the back (with a magnet) sort of like an iPad Smart Cover. But all this is just nitpicking yeah, the current case is near perfect for me like I said. Besides I've no clue, more magnets might hamper the components or sound quality? No idea.

I got the sweetest deal for mine, 2nd hand mint condition via Dopaminer for $55 directly in Tokyo :D

You should amp the line out and not the headphone out.  This will cause more distortion and degrade the sound.  Ideally you should buy the USB digital out cable available from Sony and connect it to the iDSD Micro USB input.  For an even better results, get the PHA-3 and connect it digitally with the ZX2 and reterminate your cable with dual mini jacks and utilize a balanced headphone output.

This setup also works instead of double amping from the headphone out.

Though I must say that I'm not surprised by by-passing the amp section, it sounded much more laid back and linear compared to playing it directly it out from the headphone out compared from to the ALO's new Rx.

I really did not want to install one either, but the ZX2 screen smudges more that any smartphone screen I've use.  It is about as bad as the iPad Air 2.  Anyway I highly recommend the tempered glass.  Yeah, it is slightly thicker than the flimsy plastic screen protectors, but I have never felt or seen a screen protector perform like this one.

About the Hi-Res sticker, I asked the same question to audioxxx, who has installed the same protector and advised to remove it.  So I did remove it since it is raised from the glass I suppose it would create quite an air bubble.  When I removed the Hi-Res sticker I accidently creased it, but I wasn't too worried about it; I had been contemplating removing it anyway (I'm not a big fan of gold).  I actually think the ZX2 looks better without it.  If you definitely want the Hi-Res Sticker then you might want to check out 'post #3338' by kms108.

Here is a pic of my ZX2 with the tempered glass installed:

You should have used a blow dryer to heat it up for a while, then used a razor blade to slice it off the screen, then heat it up again and use a pair of tweezers to place it back on the tempered screen protector. I just ordered the tempered screen protector myself, should be here hopefully in two weeks.

Hey all, I just purchased my first WAV files (88/24) from HD Tracks.  This is my first time installing WAV files onto the ZX2, normally I use and purchase FLAC, but wanted to give WAV a try.  Anyway I tried to clean/add tags using mp3tag, but couldn't.  I'm guessing mp3tag does not support WAV or am I missing something?  Anyway I decided to load onto ZX2 using stock tags that came from HD Tracks, but it is not recognized.  It plays and displays the song title, but as far as artist and album name it is displayed as 'Unknown' and album art does not show up.  Is there a way to tag WAV files (preferably free)?

Thanks.

go back to FLAC and the album art will display. I had the same with WAV, just gave me a headache solved simply by converting my WAV to FLAC

ZX2 is for sale in Turkey for a few weeks. Generally Sony Eurasia sells them at a pretty higher price in Turkey than Japan, but ZX2 shows to be an exception.

It is now sale for 2400 Turkish Liras (like $895). That might be one of the best prices in the world for this dap, even cheaper than Japan itself.

And I guess they're directly from Japan, so they should have no volume cap whatsoever.

I think especially European guys (that think of buying a ZX2 for $1100 - $1200) (as they can easily enter Turkey) can come here, buy a volume cap-free ZX2 for $895, and can have a pretty enjoyable holiday for a couple of weeks in the southern Mediterranean coasts with the additional few hundred bucks

€806 that's a crazy good deal. Cheaper than what my price paid in Tokyo tax free tourist coupon incl
Saw on the Turkish news today that they would increase the tax on imports for foreign electronic goods in an effort to support national production.
