What´s a good small headphone upgrade (sidegrade) fitting with the Asus Xonar Essence STX ii?

I think the actual modmic starts here at 65, which isn't that cheap. I also can't figure out why most lavaliere mics seem to need a battery, or there are negative reviews saying the sound is really weak?.. it seems to be difficult to find those outside of professional /business equipment.

What´s a good small headphone upgrade (sidegrade) fitting with the Asus Xonar Essence STX ii?

I might be looking at the wrong stuff. If I can also get cheaper stuff I'll do it. Removing the peak through EQ would be okay I guess, but you wouldn't be able to compensate for lack of bass... Don't know if TYGR 300 is better?..

What´s a good small headphone upgrade (sidegrade) fitting with the Asus Xonar Essence STX ii?

Cool, thanks, didn't have that on my radar. Are there any alternatives to the "original" modmic that are okay? I would feel weird spending 120$ on a little gaming schtick. Would a DT990 Pro hurt my ears if I've never listened to Beyers?.. the reviews sound kinda off-putting.

What´s a good small headphone upgrade (sidegrade) fitting with the Asus Xonar Essence STX ii?

I had been very happy with my Sennheiser PC360, bougth in 2012, for both gaming and music, but the microphone just died and one of the grilles of the earcups is rusted (how?.. I dunno). I got the HD6XX from Massdrop a couple years ago. To be honest, I don't like them all that much. They are not...

iBasso IT00 and AM05 Two very different IEMs with one purpose, to Enjoy the Music!

Does anyone have a bit of trouble with tips? I "upgraded" to these from the BLON BL03, which were nice for the price (I've been away from this topic for like... seven years?.. and had never heard of ChiFi before), but way too metallic, I use them as a backup. The IT00 sounds like a really nice...

"Next level" up from Blon BL-03?..

Thanks! The one review of iBasso I found on Google seems very promising, as if it delivered everything that the Starfield would have and more/better. But I guess I have to wait until the more reputable reviewers get around to it. Or should I just jump directly to the Spring 1... Would be way...

"Next level" up from Blon BL-03?..

Sure, I mean it's relative. I'm comparing the BLON to the IE80, which to my (admittedly less experienced ears) sounded like it actually had a stage and not a simulated tiny room. And again I can only take whatever ratings I find online to judge, by which the Starfield seems to be very good... I...

"Next level" up from Blon BL-03?..

Thanks. I was looking at the comparative reviews on Crinicle and that other blog and it sounded like what fits my bill more is the Moondrop Starfield. I can't have small soundstages anymore. On the other hand, it's a hundred bucks, which is far from 30$ and already puts it in the range of the...

"Next level" up from Blon BL-03?..

See my old thread, from which I got the BLON BL-03 to try: Old thread Like my old Sennheiser IE80, I use them with the LG V35 as a sound source (it does have a DAC). I got my BL-03 and now can't find them anymore. Not sure if someone at work keeps stealing headphones... Anyway. Looking for...

    Alternative to Sennheiser IE 80?

I keep coming back to this thought... Is it bearable or still enjoyable? I guess one of the reasons I liked the IE80 was that it even worked well with MP3s if I ever happened to listen to something (as background or to sample before buying or whatever). Obviously this wouldn't be its main...

    Alternative to Sennheiser IE 80?

Thanks, that's very detailed and helpful! I see a couple EX800STs used from Japan for little money on eBay, so this should be a decent option to try. It's not like they would be fakes at this point in the product lifecycle, right.

    Alternative to Sennheiser IE 80?

Reviews say though that the EX800ST can also serve bassheads (not that I'm one, but that it's more forgiving that the 1000). The only thing is, I was planning to use them with my LG V35 (it has a DAC), but it might be too weak a source for them?

    Alternative to Sennheiser IE 80?

Excellent, helpful posts, thank you both! Last time I was looking into this was 5 years ago, and clearly some things changed. Which is a good thing. Lots of new options to explore.

    Alternative to Sennheiser IE 80?

Cheers for the explanation. Would like to have a list or some pointers for what to explore next, yeah.

    Alternative to Sennheiser IE 80?

Cheers. They're cheap enough and have enough rave reviews to simply get them and try. I have my doubts that they really perform as well (like in all other hobbies, there are reasons for a difference in price), but let's see. Still open to other suggestions.

    Alternative to Sennheiser IE 80?

A couple years ago I went around local shops trying to find IEMs that would sound pleasing. The selection is somewhat limited, but I ended up moving the IE80 for its wide soundstage and relatively neutral sound and still rather powerful bass (though that was secondary). I think I've tried some...

IEM <200$ recommendation (replacing Hifiman RE-400)

The RE-400 were a good match for a while, but their build quality overall is disappointing. Or maybe I'm not used to these things, but now, less than 3 years after buying them and using them sparingly (i.e. not even daily commute), both cables broke under the earbud itself (those little black...

Good desktop speakers under.. let's say 800$.

Thanks guys. I went for the Neumanns, having brought along someone else who (without reading reviews) pointed out that their favourite was the Neumann. It is also only 100$/pair more expensive than the Dynaudios. As a plus, stands are bundled together with them. (I'm not actually sure if I'm...

Good desktop speakers under.. let's say 800$.

Alright. They require balanced input, though, which means (especially since I'd use the laptop and/or phone as source), need of a DAC. Would a Steinberg UR22 or Roland Quad-Capture be enough for them? That's what the store guy recommended... I would also be able to hook up a CD player to that...

Good desktop speakers under.. let's say 800$.

Okay, I spent a day going around shops, listening to speakers. I had the good luck to go into a musical instrument store that turned out to be the only one in the neighbourhood to have a rack with monitors, to test with my own source (okay it's just my phone with some lossless and some lossy...

Good desktop speakers under.. let's say 800$.

Interesting, though I usually prefer to play it safe and, since I really can't listen to most of those, get something that's proven to be good. And besides, my fiance would really hate the design of those... and I wouldn't be a fan either. I dunno, I'm kinda stumped because... it seems you can...

Good desktop speakers under.. let's say 800$.

There's another problem I nearly forgot to mention:  the Fostexes got interference from... my monitor. As in, there were scratching sounds in them when no music was playing and they were placed close to the monitor. I had to buy a longer table in the end (first one was tiny though). I do hope...

Good desktop speakers under.. let's say 800$.

Thank you for the suggestions. I do get that the bass extension in particular would not be as good, but I'm prepared to sacrifice that somewhat; realistically speaking they're going to be, relatively, for easy listening more than anything (for full immersion I'd go for a good pair of headphones...

Good desktop speakers under.. let's say 800$.

I've owned a pair of Fostex 0.4n nearfield monitors for a while, and they seemed to do well with my Asus Xonar Essence STX, actually all of it purchased according to a recommendation here. (I know it's a card that's great for driving headphones primarily, and I will get back to that in a short...

2.0 Speakers Compilation: Best for <$500

Sorry to revive an old thread, but it seems like it comes up on searches quite a lot, and is quite useful. Mostly just checking if this is up to date... I'm looking for some speakers that would make use of the sound quality of my Xonar Essence. I mainly use it with headphones, but sometimes...
