Sennheiser HD800 Appreciation Thread
Before I purchased my 800's I borrowed my dealers demo pair on two seperate occasions for a number of days (forget the exact serial number, approx 6xxx I think). On each occasion this pair sounded consistent, and in comparison to the 800's I received (S/N 14xxx) when I purchased them I am...- Marco2

Sennheiser HD800 Appreciation Thread
I have always thought the 600's are stonking headphones for the price, certainly more neutral than the 650s. I have always found 600's a bit brighter than 650's and also a bit more of a forward sound. I also found the 600's fit well into most systems, the 650's are a bit more picky and do not...- Marco2

Sennheiser HD800 Appreciation Thread
I know what you mean ac500, by contrast the 650's are so very different and by comparison the 650's do sound coloured.....less so the 600's. I must have owned my 650's for over 6 years and in that time they have provided much enjoyment and blown me away on many occasion...but now I find it hard...- Marco2

Sennheiser HD800 Appreciation Thread
I have had my HD800's since Xmas and am really very pleased with them. Clocked up a good few hours on them now and they have settled down nicely. Compared to out the box from new they sound better balanced right through the frequency range now, highs have smoothed out. I have owned 650's...- Marco2

Graham Slee Green Solo 2008 upgrade to: PSU1 or DIY Ultra Linear kit
I started with a Solo MC a number of years ago and then did the Ultra Linear upgrade kit, and the two are very different indeed. I have always had the PSU-1 on both. If you are happy with the current setup then I would personally go for the PSU-1 first to maximise what you already have. ...- Marco2

hd600 or hd650?
I find the 600's are a little bit brighter, more neutral and not quite as laid back as the 650's. The 600's seem to fit into a wider range of systems and sound good where as I find it harder to get the 650's to really sing, but when you get the right source/amp combo the 650's really are...- Marco2

Naim UnitiQute headphone output?
I have no first hand experience, however, my brother previously had a NAIT5i, Headline 2, FlatCap2. He downsized to a UnitiQute. He is very pleased with the UnitQute but he did comment that the headphone out did not compare to the Headline2.- Marco2

My impressions of my new Graham Slee Solo Ultra Linear amp
I got the upgrade kit for my 2004 Solo MC approx 1 month ago. If anyone is considering going for the DIY kit but worried about fitting then don't be, it really is simple. Since then it has been plugged in 24/7 and have clocked up a fair few hours listening now. I was happy with my...- Marco2

Preamp/Headphone amp suggestions
If I recall correctly the Sugden Headmaster was quite popular for use with some AT headphones. It has 3 inputs, good pre-amp and a remote (on newer models). I used the search facility and found some old threads. Could be worth reading up on.- Marco2

For 12AX7 Tube lovers !!!
I hope they bounce back. I use one in my phono stage and it is a great tube. I was looking forward to the release of their ECC81 variant to go in my Earmax, if it is as good as the ECC83 variant then it would have been a real treat.- Marco2

HD600s are the best!
It has to be said they are a great set of cans, I find myself using them more and more recently. For the performance they give they are a true bargain. I also used to prefer the 650's but for some reason I now hear a veil that up until recently I did not. The 600's seem more open and lively...- Marco2

Cyrus dac x ?
Certainly no shortage of bass. I use a DAC-X with a GS Solo and some 650's and the results are brilliant. Cyrus gear can sometimes be slightly on the lean side so I would not partner it with a lean amp or headphone. I would not consider the GS Solo to be lean and they complement each...- Marco2

Cyrus dac x ?
I use a DAC-X with PSX-R at the heart of my digital replay and have done for over 2 years and no intentions to change. Great bit of kit in my humble opinion. I put my CD, Computer and DAB radio all through it to great effect. I feed 3 ampifiers all off of the DAC-X. I use the phono outputs to...- Marco2

Megadeth - Endgame
Solid album, there best album in my opinion since Countdown to extinction. As others have commented, no real classics as such but all the tracks are of a good standard, some truely great musicianship demonstrated. Did not expect much from this album but having read it was a return to form I... -
Cartridge for the Rega P3
I have used both an Elys 2 and an Exact on a P3-24. I found the Exact to be significantly better. I remember the key differences being a lower surface noise, better detail retrieval, more punchy. I miss my Exact, I found it to be a lively and engaging listen. Currently using a 2M Black, this...- Marco2

I often listen to heavy/thrash/death metal with a set of RS-1's and my Earmax SE. For my money it delivers with heavier music.- Marco2

White Powdery Substance - RCA Interconnects
One of the Chord Chorus 2's I purchased had the exact same thing, puzzled me too. I cleaned it off and treated with Caig Deoxit as I would with any new cable and it works a treat, no problem. Don't believe it is anything to worry about. -
Earmax Pro - Simple tube upgrade advice
I would start by saying I am no expert but from my personal experience and the sound signature you are after I suspect you may well enjoy Mullard tubes, generally quite a warm sound. I also suspect you may like the Russian 6H23-EB tubes which are a variant of the ECC88. However, my...- Marco2

Earmax Pro - Simple tube upgrade advice
Absolutely dicy, it is well worth experimenting with different tubes. IMO the stock tubes are easily bettered. My first observation when I used some Mullard NOS tubes was it added an extra coat of realism to the sound, hard to describe but it was immediatly noticeable difference and for the...- Marco2
