    Tom Waits

Is there really anyone equal to Tom Waits? I don't think so.   I don't think anyone can equal his output since the late 70's.   He stands alone.   Tom Waits is the best artist we've ever seen since then, and I'm a Bob Dylan fan!

    Greatest Country Music Song Ever

It has to be "New Tony Lamas" on Deryl Dodd's "Live At Billy Bob's Texas" album.   It's never going to be famous, but it is probably the best country song ever!   Find it and listen...   I'm willing to accept "Middle Age Crazy" by Jerry Lee Lewis and "Shotgun Boogie" by Tennessee Ernie...

New York Dolls on HD Tracks

I see that the legendary Todd Rundgren-produced first New York Dolls album from 1973 is now available on HD Tracks in 192 / 24 and 96 / 24.   I don't have my hands on it yet, but I'm definitely going to check that one out.   It's been one of my favorite albums for decades!

Rebel Music Rules ("Goon Squad" from Elvis Costello "Armed Forces" 1979).

Rebel Music. Elvis Costello's 1979 track "Goon Squad" just about defines it:     Mother, Father, I'm here in the zoo I can't come home 'cause I've grown up too soon I got my sentence I got my command They said they'd make me major if I met all their demands I could be a corporal into...

    RIP Tommy Ramone

I didn't see anything on here when the last surviving original member of the Ramones passed away in July.   RIP Tommy Ramone.   Thanks: Dee Dee, Joey, Johnny, and Tommy. All gone but still remembered....

Connection Question - Active Monitors with Balanced XLR and TRS Inputs

I have a connection question. I was taking a look at some JBL LSR305 Active Studio Monitors. These monitors only have two inputs. Both are labeled balanced. One input is XLR and the other is TRS. Here's a photo:     I was thinking about using them for computer audio. I have a FiiO E17 DAC...

    Missing Warren Zevon

Sometimes, it just doesn't seem like anyone writes songs like "Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner" anymore...    I miss Warren Zevon.

The First Two Albums by Blondie

In my humble opinion, these two albums are way underrated:   They never get the respect they deserve:       Two fantastic albums way ahead of their time!

The Rolling Stones - Sweet Summer Sun - Hyde Park Live - Blu-ray

For anyone who hasn't seen it...   The Rolling Stones - Sweet Summer Sun - Hyde Park Live on Blu-ray is a disc worth getting!   The video quality and the sound quality are both excellent. The Rolling Stones return to Hyde Park in 2013.   Some folks have complained about the video edit...

New Releases 2014 - No Records Released Before 2014

It's that time of year again, folks. Time to start a new thread for all of the new releases as they come out.   I'll start it off.     Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks - "Wig Out at Jagbags" (2014)   Ex-Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus returns...

HD Tracks Van Morrison 192-24 Releases

I only have two of the HD Tracks Van Morrison 192-24 releases so far. I have 'Astral Weeks,' and the basic 'Moondance' release (not the expanded or deluxe version of that one.)   To my ears, both of them sound absolutely fantastic! Of course, the material is some of the best ever recorded, but...

A Chuck Berry Box Set Recommendation

Fairly recently, I picked up this 4-CD box set:     I can't recommend it enough. Rather than write my own review, I'll just post this one from Allmusic.com. There are two follow-up collections out now covering Chuck's material from the '60s and '70s, and I'm definitely going to pick those...

    Secrets Of The Who

Everybody talks about "Tommy," "Quadrophenia" or "Who's Next."   Yes, I love all three of those! They're all great.   However, I think the most underrated album by The Who is "The Who By Numbers" from 1975.   Nobody ever talks about that one, but it's so damn good. Pete Townsend really got...

    The Who in '82

I remember when The Who released "It's Hard" in 1982. At the time, they were old folks flying in the face of punk rock. They were already old hat, but there were still a few good tracks.   "Athena" and "Emincence Front."   Probably the last time The Who mattered.
