This release is the first (and only) time this album is being made available on vinyl and the pressing is going to be limited to 250 copies (a digital download is also included with the purchase). The content has been updated and will include still unannounced bonus tracks. The wheels on getting the album mastered and cut for vinyl and the discs pressed will only be set in motion once at least 66 copies have been pre-ordered, so no exact release date has been set.

I was somewhat familiar with Rosanne Cash's (Johnny's daughter) earlier albums. They are decent but not really my cup of tea. Last week while browsing CDs at my local shop this album was playing and it drew me in immediately. I bought it and have listened to it over and over. This is a great album with excellent songwriting. It kind of reminds me of Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings. You need to listen to this album if you like "Americana"/folk music. I really wouldn't call it country music per se.

This song is awesome IMO and the best song on the album.

Long-anticipated follow-up to one of my favorite albums of 2008. Noisy, heavy, depressing post-rock and shoegaze. Crushing stuff.

Brutal, nasty, noisy doom/drone/sludge metal. I want to emphasize the noise bit--at times this roughly approximates what Kyuss would sound like if they riffed over the top of a Merzbow album and hired a Norwegian death or black metal vocalist to 'sing' lead. This is gnarly stuff. And it's pretty awe-inspiring. Face-melting is so over-used when it comes to describing metal, but From All Purity deserves the praise. This will indeed melt your face. Utterly poisonous--I like it a lot.

Come on guys, I know that there's more 2014 out there worth posting on!

Silver Mt. Zion: **** Off Get Free We Pour Light on Everything

Silver Mt. Zion is an arm of Godspeed You! Black Emperor that takes the same melancholic, cinematic, and punk approach to post-rock--the twist being that, hey, there's singing as well! It might sound gimmicky, but Silver Mt. Zion have evolved into an identity of their own, and while their music doesn't generally fall far from the GY!BE tree, it's still ultimately very distinct, in no small part due to Efrim Menuck's interesting vocals. If GY!BE's music has always been apocalyptic in a large-scale, grand way, then Silver Mt. Zion has approached the end of the world on a personal level--and they've never done it more memorable fashion than they do here.

Starting with the music--it sounds like SMZ has been keeping up to date with recent trends in post-punk revivalism and the evolution of black metal. **** Off is *heavy* stuff--at times you could probably easily confuse isolated moments of it for something from Have a Nice Life's or Deafheaven's newest albums. Lyrically they're covering the same anarchic, paranoid roads that they've tread before, though they do it no less poetically, and they manage to add a significant twist: a lot of the lyrics revolve specifically around the deaths or implied deaths or potential deaths of children. The voice of Efrim's son opens the album ('We live on the island called Montreal, and we make a lot of noise because we love each other!'), and the horrors that Menuck conjures with his lyrics are all the more horrific for how afraid he is for his child's future. 'All our children gonna die' he warns on 'What We Loved Was Not Enough.' Good luck swallowing around that lump in your throat. Also worth noting: the closing track is dedicated to Capital Steez--who was no doubt as much a comrade-in-arms as he was a child to Menuck, no matter if they never met.
