Comment by 'brucew268' on listing 'Little Dot 1+ upgraded (LD1+)'
I'll include both sets of valves, either of which gives significantly better results than stock. My favourites are the Mullards. Also it is surprising how the OPA 2107 opamp lifts the amplifier's performance into a whole different tier.- brucew268

SOLD This hybrid valve-SS amplifier works especially well with low impedance headphones like planars, and has a couple upgrades including the OPA2107 opamp which made a big difference. This is the later model (ver 4.0) with several SMD parts and also runs a little cooler than the older models...- brucew268

Little Dot I+ Tube Rolling
These tube damping experiments were all with Mullard M8161 which I quite like overall, good dynamics, detail, soundstaging, air, mids and frequency extremes. Natural sounding with richness but not bloomy. Adding the following silicone o-rings had the following results for me: 17mm (ID) x 2mm –...- brucew268

Little Dot I+ Tube Rolling
Perhaps everyone has lost interest in LD1+… or another newbie, can’t be bothered. Anyway, No, it’s not asking too much of a $100 hybrid. At first I played a little with putting a board under the amp with soft footers beneath that, which helped but weren’t soft enough for a component this...- brucew268

Little Dot I+ Tube Rolling
I just received an LD1+ with Mullard M8161's from someone who probably bought it off of Drop, since it only has 40 hours on it and is a v4.0 board. Nice and quiet and so far not overly bothered about by LCD monitor inches away or my smartphone about 18 inches away. Here is what I'm noticing and...- brucew268

NICEHCK earphone cables
I see these two NICEHCK earphone cables but one is 3x the price of the other. Both are all copper, high purity, 16 core. Is there a qualitative difference I'm missing? The connectors...- brucew268

Flare Audio – FLARES® – (R2.x successor) KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN
I rang Flare Audio a couple weeks ago to ask a few questions. It sounded as if they haven't anchored whether the R2 successor will be introduced through a Kickstarter-type campaign.- brucew268

Flare Audio – FLARES® – (R2.x successor) KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN
I should clarify. I've read lots of people talk about "out of the head" staging, which I never really understood what they mean to say, unless it is that the stage feels bigger than could fit in the physical space of their head. I'm not so impressed with a super-wide stage. What I'm talking...- brucew268

Flare Audio – FLARES® – (R2.x successor) KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN
Good review, and I can imagine it could be frustrating to have people looking at every word with a magnifying glass... but that's what I'm doing. One thing I was really looking forward to was a sound that had walk-through 3-dimensionality on the musical instruments. Also, I really wanted a...- brucew268

Flare Audio – FLARES® – (R2.x successor) KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN
Yes, we'd like to know more about the changes to the tuning or sound profile. Knowing what I liked and didn't like about the R2A sound, the changes could be towards what I want or away from what I want.- brucew268

Flare Audio R2PRO Kickstarter campaign
When I tried Flare R2A the foam did not sound as good for me as soft silicone ones. That could be because I have a rather small ear canal that makes even foam earplugs a little tricky to insert. So it may be that the overhang on the Complys and inAirs was overhanging and being pushed into the...- brucew268

Of course is a heavily modified DIY with custom metal cutting and mill work. So not something most people would dare try let alone know how to do. Flare Audio R2PRO Kickstarter campaign
Interesting. Maybe the cap had been adjusted wrongly. I wish I still had access to the friend's R2A to play with the endcap and see if it would have corrected the problem with upper mids suckout, as that would make the R2A a good choice for me and save £50-100. BTW: one can buy o-rings on...- brucew268

Flare Audio R2PRO Kickstarter campaign
Any comparisons of R2S to the other R2 models per below? I have found very little said on the R2S as everyone seems to talk about the Alum or Titanium models. I listened to someone's R2A a bit last week and liked much about the presentation: good sense of 3D body and space to the...- brucew268
