Sony Walkman NWZ-A17
Ah, what a long and twisted road has brought me to this thread. I previously owned the Audeze LCD-2 along with a portable DAC and separate headphone amp from ALO Audio. I also had a Schiit desktop DAC and amp (forgot the name, the amp had tubes, some Viking sh!t) and guess what? It sounded...- powerpopper

Sony Walkman NWZ-A17
Hey Bern, I picked up that case too. Haven't used it yet, but definitely will when I travel. I'm really digging this set up. One thing I forgot to mention initially...I heard a couple of folks say the build quality on the MDR-1ABT was lacking and that they feel a little light. They are some...- powerpopper

Sony Walkman NWZ-A17
I went through a huge headphone and accessory buying phase the last time I was on this board and according to my Amazon history, have 3 Fiio amps--the E5, E7 and E11--now I just have to find them! Of course, the E12 looks pretty cool too. Forgot about that bundled Eagles package (which of...- powerpopper

Sony Walkman NWZ-A17
As I've now had this combo for 3 days, I do find myself wishing for a bit more volume on LDAC. But then again maybe I'm saving my hearing from my own desire to "play it loud!" It is indeed loud enough for air travel which was my main purpose. I might invest in a headphone amp so I can listen...- powerpopper

Sony Walkman NWZ-A17
I did the firmware update immediately and have listened to nothing but LDAC, which sounds great. Very occasionally it seems to choke but I have found that is when I have put the player in my pocket. For my purposes, I don't see this being a problem long-term. Sorry, where are those EQ...- powerpopper

Sony Walkman NWZ-A17
Just wanted to say thank you for starting--and keeping up--this excellent thread. I received an NWZ-A17 and MDR-1ABT headphones yesterday and OMG I am blown away. My main purpose is to use this combo for air travel so wireless, great battery life and superb sound quality are a combination I...- powerpopper

LCD-2 plus Continental v.2 or Rx mkII?
Quote: I have the CLAS, Continental and LCD-2. No, I don't ever want to bring them outdoors. However, when I travel I can bring this set up with me and have unbelievable sound in my room. It's an awesome rig. The high/low gain switch on the Continental means I can also use it to drive...- powerpopper

Aftermarket cables for the HE-6/ HE-500 etc.
Quote: Got my Silver Dragon for the HE-500 a couple of days ago. HUGE improvement over the skinny, clear silver stock cable in terms of build quality. Can't say I notice a difference in SQ but I'll live with them for a while and if not, that's ok.- powerpopper

HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.
Quote: I got the LCD-2 first and couldn't resist trying out the HE-500. When I first got them, I really liked the HE-500 more. At that point, I was using them both with the Lyr/Bifrost combo. Then I started using with the Cypher Labs AlgoRhythm Solo and Continental V2 which I really like...- powerpopper

Schiit DACs (Bifrost and Gungnir down, one to go)? The information and anticipation thread.
Quote: Yes, I figured that out after I posted it. BTW, we have the same speakers (KRK Rokit 5). Funny thing about hum on the Lyr. I got mine with the 6N1P tubes and experienced no hum. About a week later, I got some Tesla tubes and when I first put them in I heard some hum. They've...- powerpopper

Schiit DACs (Bifrost and Gungnir down, one to go)? The information and anticipation thread.
Quote: Ok, this is going to probably be a dumb question but here goes. Right now, I have the Bifrost/Lyr combo running off my iMac via Optical. Then I have my Apogee Duet 2 running off USB and this runs my powered speakers. There is no way the Lyr is going to run the speakers...- powerpopper

HD600 vs K601 vs Q701 vs your idea.
I own the Q701 and I don't find them the most interesting headphones to listen to. It's as though they are more like an audio tool for those who record and mix (even though I know you're not supposed to mix on headphones). They are fine studio headphones but I wouldn't want to wear them when I'm...- powerpopper
