New Ipod classic coming?
Whether helpful I can only guess, but I did have both problems described here when I got my classic. It died and was replaced by apple about 2 months ago. The new one now is slow to load the album art like the old one, but the function seems to have been relegated to "background," since I can...- dgs

HeadAmp Pico Portable Amp (w/ optional upsampling 24/96 USB DAC) Pre-Order Thread
#314 arrived on Thursday night (3/23). It is quite impressive, I must say. Thanks Justin! (and yes, I did get an email confirmation of shipping...the amp came about 5 days after that confirmation...and yes, it is worth the wait, in my opinion--i ordered on January 24). By way of...- dgs

Zune 80 or Ipod Classic 80/160?
interference = crackling, static, etc. when moving around the device's features, switching songs, etc. You can probably do a search here or in google and find others with this problem. It's not the sound effect (I may be dumb, but not that dumb). As for the AAC issue--I am much less...- dgs

Zune 80 or Ipod Classic 80/160?
the zune accepts AAC files, but if you look at "device" while the unit is syncing, it (very quietly and in a tiny font) alternates the message "syncing" with "converting." Maybe I am wrong, but...I have no better explanation for that message. If I am missing something, could you tell me so that...- dgs

Zune 80 or Ipod Classic 80/160?
I have to vote for the ipod at the moment. My ipod died, so I went out and got a zune. It's a nice little machine. However: 1. it has the annoying interference when switching songs, switching menus, etc. I can live with it. the ipod is silent save for the music. 2. it does not load AAC...- dgs

ETYMŌTIC IEM Owners Headcount - Are you one?
Hey EFN, You can add me to your list. I have the etymotic 4p classic (red/blue) with one of the original Daniel Pumphrey DIY P to S conversion cables. I also have the er6 and er6i. I wrote two of the reviews of the etymotics back in 2001. And BTW, your PM mailbox is full. Thanks. Daniel (dgs)- dgs

A JMT musing
JMT, Welcome back! I have been away from Head-fi since 2003. I got into photography very seriously and ended up diverting my monies in similar fashion. Then, I picked up a new pair of Grado sr225's "just for the heck of it," plugged them into my ipod through the META 42 you built for me, and...- dgs

MDR-V6 Scandal
misterV6, I had the same experience a couple of months ago, or rather, a similarly dissapointing experience replacing old workhorse v6's. I "lost" a pair of v6's that were about 6 years old, and replaced them with new v6's. They definitely have bass, but mostly a booming low, wobbly one, and...- dgs

Etymotic ER-6P Good?
between the er6 and er6i, the er6i is much less fatiguing, more balanced, and doesn't have the annoying mid treble hump that the er6 has. I definitely prefer the er6i. Very tolerable unamped as well.- dgs

Looking for closed phone, help please!!!
The least fatiguing closed can I have used is the beyer 250-80. The treble is a little rolled off, but this disappears after a few minutes, and they are very comfortable and non-fatiguing. I think the sony v6 will probably be recommended by some others, but I find that can more fatiguing...- dgs

Are there different versions of the Sennheiser PX 100?
I have one old pair, and one new pair. There is no way to tell them apart without putting music through them. Then, there is definitely a difference--the newer ones are not as rolled off in the highs, the bass is tighter and less overpowering, but they do still sound "warm" by comparison to say...- dgs

New improved Senn PX100
Although this may be the Senn party line, I have both an old pair and a new pair, and they sound, to my ears, markedly different. There is, of course, no way to tell (that I can see) that they are different, but they do sound different to me. I always hated the px100, finding it too boomy in...- dgs

If the Senn HD650 is in the same league as the Beyer Dynamic DT880, then why...
FYI: Senn 650 at B & H for 325. You have to add them to your cart to see the reduced price. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...sc&fi=all&pn=2- dgs

IPOD using multiple computers
Hi guys. I haven't been here for a while...ever since my son was born...hmmm... Anyway, I've been spying around looking for an easy answer to these few IPOD questions (I finally broke down and got one). Any help would be appreciated. 1. Is there an easy way to use two computers to load...- dgs

In-ear phones dangerous?
Just my two cents: I am a physician and a long time etymotic user. I have had no problems, and I have to tell you that it has been my impression that there is no danger to one's hearing inherent in the fact that etymotic are canalphones. The dangers as I understand them have been well-delineated...- dgs

vinyl guys agree they prefer CD!
Just my 2 cents, but I am most interested in the music as the artist intended it. With that in mind, if the album was originally meant for release on vinyl, I can only assume that the artist intended it to sound the way it did--with the participation of engineer, producer, etc.--and that the...- dgs

Problems with headphone listening
I would suggest that you indulge yourself in analyzing the music in the way that you are finding bothersome as much as possible. Let's Play the RATE THE CD PORTABLE Game
Despite the resounding emphasis on the 470 being a POS, I will answer the question asked of me... I liked the 460 better because it was more powerful, was cleaner and more open-sounding, and sounded better with the ESP on than the 470. To reply to other general issues, and please keep in...- dgs

Let's Play the RATE THE CD PORTABLE Game
Just my two cents. I wouldn't cross the 470 off the list completely. I have had two of them, and they both sounded fine. It seems however, that there is variation in quality depending on the unit you get. If you can still find the 460 anywhere, I really loved that unit.- dgs
