Audeze EL-8: The EL-8 is a must-hear at CES 2015
Oh, man. I've been talking myself into and out of the LCD XC for a while. I now have new lust. Tomorrow can't come soon enough.- Autark

Oh Schiit, it's the end of the world! Announcing Ragnarok.
Good gravy. I almost want to jump in on this try to finesse running my IEMs all the way up to my Maggies. 100w RMS @ 4 ohms is pretty beefy, but I'd like to see it stand up next to a big, nasty powerhouse like the XPA-2 I've got sitting at home. Not curious enough to dump the money on it...- Autark

Official 2014 LA Head-Fi Meet, August 9, 2014, Marriott Warner Center
People bring a lot of variety. I'd recommend bringing your mid-fi stuff along. Everyone has different budgets and may be at a different point in their journey. I'd suggest narrowing it down to the things you really like and you want to share.- Autark

DT 770 Pro 80 ohms vs ATH-M50
Definitely agree. I bought the stack as a placeholder for a more expensive amp when I got the LCD-3s. I plugged them up to the 770s just out of curiosity and I was surprised that there was a real improvement in the sound. There is a lot of snake oil in the audio world, but having had the 770s...- Autark

DT 770 Pro 80 ohms vs ATH-M50
Okay, cool. You may have a tough time finding something closed and more comfortable in that range. This place is full of knowledgable people, though, so someone may have a good alternative. For the cups, just go slow with it. You should be able to feel when they are resisting. Take it a...- Autark

DT 770 Pro 80 ohms vs ATH-M50
I'd recommend you add what your budget is. And if you're looking for strictly a closed set, or if it doesn't matter. Finally, you might be able to reduce the clamping force of the 770s by bending that top piece by flexing the cups out (if you feel confident doing so). I've worn a lot of...- Autark

Alex Rosson--Audeze's CEO--on Bloomberg TV
I think we're already hijacking this thread. You might want to start up something in the sound science area. There are going to be people with much more experience than I have to answer that question. I would not start with diffusers. If your room is small, you may not want to scatter that...- Autark

Alex Rosson--Audeze's CEO--on Bloomberg TV
The good news about loudspeakers is that you can update bit by bit. That's also the bad news, as you'll want to keep buying new things to try. Magnepan is extremely cagey about giving advice for components. The best I could milk out of them is that you want as much good, clean and stable...- Autark

Alex Rosson--Audeze's CEO--on Bloomberg TV
He's trying to sum up a lot of information, in a very limited amount of time, and to justify the value of headphones that are more than 100x what most viewers have ever spent on headphones. He's saying "These 'can' sound better than an expensive audio set up," rather than "No audio system under...- Autark

Glad to see this here. For anyone who hasn't had the chance to talk to him in person, Alex is one of the nicest people you could meet. I'm still hesitant to listen to the LCD-XC... I promised myself I wouldn't lust after anything else after the LCD-3. But I want that closed set so badly for...- Autark

Custom iem vs universal reshell value?
If you're 20 minutes from UE, just call them up. Ask if you can audition the universal set they have that use their custom drivers. Seriously, they have some very generous, great people. If you're lucky, they may have the triple-fi 10's on hand to listen side by side. And note, even the...- Autark

Custom iem vs universal reshell value?
The UE7 isn't the least expensive from Ultimate Ears. The UE4 is $400. If you're getting the the universal new, by the time you've reshelled them, you aren't really saving a lot. You can get the custom 1964 Ears entry level ~$350. I had the Triple-fi (without custom shells) and it did not...- Autark

Schiit Magni vs. Asgard 2
It is small and pretty light, but Schiit gives you some little rubber feet to put on it. It's still got a solid build but If you get a bunch of cable spaghetti hanging off a desk, it'll probably drag it. Probably not a big deal.- Autark

Schiit Magni vs. Asgard 2
Sadly, without being able to hear them both, you're going to have to take a risk. I'd wager the Asgard will do what you want it to do very well. If you're really planning to keep it for 7 years and you want to see the biggest difference between what you have and what you're getting, that's...- Autark

Looking for some closed headphones for ~$400
If you have a Guitar Center near where you are, they will probably have both in store to audition. I own the 770 Pro80s and I've heard the Vmoda M100s. Prefer the 770s, but I was listening those to a long time before I heard the M100s.- Autark

Schiit Magni vs. Asgard 2
They should not degrade audio quality, cause noise or distortion, however in the audiophile world, you'll find all kinds of opinions. I've used them without noticing any difference in fidelity, just more useable range on the potentiometer. For me, it was the difference between listening too...- Autark

Schiit Magni vs. Asgard 2
You can also just throw in some RCA line-level attenuators. You can get different dB reducers, depending on what you need. I think the most expensive are ~$25.- Autark
