Sound stage is not unique to live music:) Sound stage is an expression of the headphone's ability to separate aspects of the music and present it back to you in the most accurate manner. When a band records an album it's not done with one microphone....it's done with several microphones...

First off, I love my T5p's. However at times it's a love/hate relationship (in a good way). Headphones as dynamic and detailed as the T5p's can often require your attention in ways you weren't expecting. It's hard to just throw these headphones on and go about your day. The detail draws you in...

I love the sound these headphones produce but I'm not in love with the build quality and materials. I prefer the feel of my DT770's (which are more comparable to the T70's in regards to material and build than Beyer's T1 or T5p) over the T70's.

Your comment above makes it sound like you hate the T5p, or the idea of the T5p, compared to the T1...   Either way, I love these cans. I actually did a pretty cool test to see how accurate the T5p's are at recreating the original source. I A/B'd a live orchestra playing the works of John...

You were looking into amp's/dac's for your T5p's right? Which did you end up choosing and does it sound good?

The price is similar but you're paying for two different products. The T1 is a solid can with great SQ (pro) but not portable and open backed (cons; for your situation). I've had the T5p for over a year now and couldn't be happier. I love the portable aspect. I know I'm sacrificing a small...

RSA should still be making the SR-71B which is actually a step up and fully balanced.

I've been using the RSA SR-71A with my T5p's for the past year now. I couldn't recommend the combo more. It may be a bit outside the price you'd mentioned but when dealing with $1200 cans it makes sense to pair them with an amp of equal quality.      

I actually never had a classic. I've had the iphone for years and have always used nano's. But I agree a classic would be a great addition and have thought about upgrading recently.

I have the DT 770's as well. They aren't too bright IMO and do a great job on almost all types of music. Granted they aren't the most dynamic cans with the best sound stage but they are my go-to headphones for casual listening.   

I'd love to attend a meet in the SLC area. I have a pair of Beyerdynamic T5p's and a RSA SR-71A amp to bring to the table. I'm an amateur and would love to hear what's out there.

I've loved my DT 770 80 ohm's for well over a year now. They isolate to a degree more than I've ever needed. (Side note: they are extremely durable. I've lugged them all over the place and they haven't faltered at all).   Best of luck
