    The Stax Thread III

Hello. Have not contributed here for a very long time. Have recently acquired 007 mk2.5 and am very happy following a partial port block. The 'tuning' of the port is to my ears quite critical and required a lot of dismantling/assembling to get it right, but the result seems near-ideal to me  in...

Thanks for all the replies to my WEE issues - really appreciated!   I've tried lifting the ground, and reversing AC polarity, without luck. I'm pretty confident this is not a ground loop problem as I've tried all of the obvious steps. To be honest I'm quite confused at this point...

WEE - new product from Woo Audio

Thanks for the reply - and yes, I hadn't read anything negative either. I've tried it with several amps and the hum seems to be entirely from the WEE itself...   Cheers.

Thanks for the reply!   The WEE is directly into the wall as is everything else - there's a switch on it to shunt between 115 and 230v.   Neil Quote:

    The Stax thread (New)

I recently posted about torn dustcovers on the inside of my normal bias Lambdas. I tried kitchen plastic film as a repair. It works but I think it's really only usable as a last resort. Some immediacy is lost.   I have since then replaced the dustcovers with 2 micron mylar 'transparent foil'...

Yes, I saw the link for this. I'd love to know whether it held up long term. I've wondered about very thin shrink wrap (12.5 micron) which is quite widely available.

Liquid skin sounds interesting and might be worth an experiment! I see someone else suggested plastic wrap/cling film but this doesn't sound right to me...   Thanks.

Sorry to 'bump' my question but I would be really grateful if anyone who has repaired/replaced a dust cover on the inside (ear side) of a Lambda driver (I have a normal bias one) could let me know what to use!   Thank you for any help!

Thank you for replies to my crinkle problem. As it turns out it seems the dustcover on the inside is torn and I need to replace it - or repair it. Can any one point me to a good source for replacement film.   Any suggestions at all would be welcome!   Thanks

    The Stax thread (New)

Hello. A new contributor here. I'm looking for a little help with my very old SR Lambdas (normal bias).  I get the usual 'crinkle' noises from both earpieces when there are pressure changes, but this is now much more noticeable/annoying on one side than the other. I thought it might be the seals...

    X-CAn V3 with Sony CD3000's?

Could someone describe the sort of difference the X-PSU makes to the sound of the X-can? I'm trying to work out whether to bite the bullet! Thanks!

    Who has tried X-can v3 with X-PSU?

I'm running an x-can v3 into my AKG 501s. It offers a slightly fuller sound than my Meridian preamp headphone output, but there is some loss of clarity in the sound compared to the Meridian, and the background is significantly less 'empty'. I'd be very grateful if someone could give me some...

    Musical Fidelity X-can v3?

I'm using my x-can v3 with AKG 501s, and it's only now feeling burned in after several weeks of pretty heavy use. One of the best things I did was to change the stock tubes (for Electro-Harmonix ones, which are current production). I wasn't expecting this to make much of a difference given some...

Thanks very much. I'll see if my dealer can lend me a psu so that I cantry it directly.

What does power supply upgrade do for X-can v3?

I know a lot of people have commented on the advantages of using a proper power supply for the earlier versions of the X-can, but I was wondering whether anyone here has tried it with the v3, and if so what the results were. I wouldn't completely rule out the X-PSU (even at £250!) if the...

Give me THE amp for akg k501

My X-can (v3) seems to be a very good match for the K501s. I'm currently looking at upgrading the power supply and some tube rolling to maximize the sense of 'air' that the 501s are so good at, but the treble is beautifully smooth and the X-can gives a lot more in the bass than the very good...

    How to open X-can v3?

Please excuse the 'chicken' newbie question, but my X-can is still under warranty, and I want to be very careful when opening it to change valves. Could someone offer me a quick step-by-step guide? Thanks so much for any help - and to everyone for a great forum! Neil
