Ripping with Plextools (Ogg & MP3)

I have always used Plextools for ripping (using Ogg Vorbis at Q8). I am thinking about switching over to using MP3 instead of Ogg and haven't made up my mind yet. The main reason I may do so is because relatively few flash players support Ogg and all players support MP3. I have tried to...

    EMU 0404 Clipping?

After exploring Halcyon's questions, I may have found a solution to this problem. I use Media Center v11 and it has two options under the volume control: "System Volume" and "Internal Volume (Audio Only)". Previously Media Center was set to "System Volume". I tried switching to "Internal...

Preferred Media Player? (can't figure out Foobar)

I chose Medica Center v11 because it is an excellent file organizer and it is easy to learn and use. I tried to use Foobar but didn't have the time or patience to configure it. The strength of Media Center is that it allows you to easily change and reorganize your file information any way you...

    EMU 0404 Clipping?

My computer has an EMU 0404 sound card, which is connected to a Gilmore Lite headphone amplifier with Sennheiser HD 580 headphones and a Logitech Z300 2.1 computer speaker system. Sometimes I notice the EMU 0404 seems to be clipping (the sound becomes harsh and scratchy) at certain high...

Places in San Jose area I can try out headphones?

Also, when you finish visiting Magnolia, go around the corner and visit The Good Guys. They have many Sennheiser and Sony headphones and sometimes they have demo units that you can try on for comfort. They don't have the headphones hooked up though, so you won't be able to listen to them. They...

How difficult is it to become a certified financial planner?

I'm both a CPA and a CFP...the CFP exam is probably about 2/3 as hard as the combined parts of the CPA exam. The hard thing about the CFP exam is you have to pass it all at once, unlike the CPA exam which in many states can be taken part by part. Also, the questions are harder on the CFP exam in...

Places in San Jose area I can try out headphones?

Magnolia Video & Audio (corner of Stevens Creek Blvd and Winchester Blvd). They have demo units for many Sennheisers including the 600, 590, 280 and others that you can listen to.

Are you happy with E4/C's cable?

I like the E4c's cable better than the E5c. It is lighter and less microphonic and seems less bulky and more flexible. The cord is still too long though. I wish it was only 4 feet long... that would be perfect for portable use. You can fix the problem by bundling up a short section and spiral...

Sound blocking headphones to use while cutting grass?

I suggest you DON'T listen to music while mowing the lawn. You are multiplying the sound entering your ears 2-3 times if you do this. Even if you use IEM's that seal the ear canal, sound is transmitted to your ears from sound vibrations to your skull. Lawn mowers are very noisy to begin with -...

Best way to shorten E4 cord?

Just got an E4.... Any recommendations for shortening the cord? I also have an E5 and have "shortened" it by bundling a small section and spiral wrapping it with electrical tape. This works quite well but the tape is black and so it doesn't match the cord... Any other kinds of methods...

    Shure Tri-Flanges?

These would be the Tri-Flanges for the ER-4P right? Do you know if they will fit the E5 as well as the E4c? Edit: Also, do you buy them directly from Etymotic or is there a better site?

    "WAR OF THE WORLDS" thread....

Here's what I don't understand about this movie: 1. Why would a super-intelligent and totally ruthless alien race not have prepared for a little detail like bacteria? 2. Wouldn't it make much more sense to kill all of us with a super virus, rather than trying to zap us with cremation rays...

    Shure Tri-Flanges?

Where can you get a good deal on Tri-Flanges for the Shure E5 / E4c? I had one pair that came with my E5's, but cut the smallest tips off (because they seemed too large), and now they don't fit well. Maybe I should have cut the largest flanges off instead. I noticed a pair of Tri-Flanges...

Help with Scratched CD's -- EAC not doing it...

I highly recommend the Skip Doctor. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...&s=pc&n=507846 This product works amazingly well. I was skeptical when I purchased it, but have been consistently amazed at how many discs it can restore to bit-perfect copies. Buy the motorized one and be sure...

    Good headphones for classical/opera??

I think two of the top contenders will be the Sennheiser HD 650 or Beyerdynamic DT 880. I've never had a chance to hear a DT 880 but have an idea of how it compares to the 650. The 650 has more bass, the 880 has more emphasis on the treble. The 880 is probably a little more comfortable than the...

Why does everyone seem to think the e5 is bass heavy?

I agree the E5's do not sound bass heavy compared to regular full size phones. I notice more bass with my 650's, and much more bass with my DT 770-80s's. Out of the three, the only one I ever fault for having too much bass (sometimes) is the DT 770-80.

    Microphonics/Comfort: Shure E5 vs. Westone UM2

Try both for two weeks. Return the one you like less. I've found that Head-Fi isn't very helpful when you get into subjective aspects of buying decisions. Only you will be able to decide which one you will like more after you try each. Me, I love the E5 more than the UM2. Other people value the...

    Microphonics/Comfort: Shure E5 vs. Westone UM2

I've tried both and like the E5 much more. It is true the wires on the E5 are a little bulky and too long and they are significantly more microphonic than the UM2. You can almost eliminate all microphonics on the E5 by drawing the wires up to your chin, using the supplied cord tightener. Once...

Help me decide: iAudio 5 or U2

If size and lightweight are your primary concerns, and you don't mind having to use a charger, get the U2. It's much lighter and is smaller. If you want a player to take it on the road don't want to be concerned about charging the player, and don't mind a little more size and weight, get the...

    Help me silence my computer!!

Depending on how old your computer is, it may be better and cheaper to buy a new one and start from scratch using components that are all designed with silence in mind. I did that a few months ago and now my old, noisy computer is only a backup for my new, virtually silent one. You can also...
