Need help with Prototyping Boards (breadboards)
I'm currently building a tube amp with SS power supply. Every amp I've ever built has been all tube with direct tab to tab soldering. I have never used a prototype board and wish to do so with this new power supply. My issue is given all the variety of prototype boards, board materials, and...- macm75

How much do I have to spend to get Koss KCS75 quality in an IEM?
I'm not very critical with my ipod listening but can survive with the KCS75 sound. Obviously the Koss’ are OK with its dynamic range and detail and that is all I ask for. So anyway, looking for recommendation for the least expensive IEM (hopefully less than $100) that can compete with the KCS75...- macm75

Another van Waarde...
First, as seen and discussed many times over, it starts here... http://headwize.com/projects/showfil...aarde1_prj.htm I have not posted in a long time here but sorry to say I have had nothing to say about headphones lately. Concentrating on the living room audio stuff and just enjoying what...- macm75

Taking advantage of Free PCB Boards - Morally OK?
Maybe this belongs in the members lounge but I thought there would be more folks who understood the question here. So the scenerio is a PCB fabricator offers free PCB's or large amounts of credit towards an order and you know you will never order from them again or "go into production" with the...- macm75

Looking for Help with PCB Board Fabrication
I'm interested in building the Kevin Gilmore's Current-Domain amp for electrostatics (KGSS), found Taucer's fantastic work, but not sure how to go about getting the boards fabricated. I assume I simply need the files in his fabfiles directory (kgss-full-b2.GBL, GBS, GKO, GTL, GTO, GTS, and TXT...- macm75

Stax SR-30 5-pin Connection.
I just built an amp for a pair of Stax SR-303's that I'm still waiting for. In the meantime, I'd like to test the amp with a pair of old SR-30's (electret) I have laying around. Will the pinouts to the SR-30 match the SR-303's and will the SR-30 accept 580VDC bias? The SR-30 is 5 pin so I...- macm75

Little funny - Wife/headphone(s) mini story
I'm sure plenty of you can appreciate this... So I'm building a stax amp while I'm waiting for the 303's, sold my only current headphones on ebay and minutes after the sale scored a pair of K501's on ebay. I tell my wife I did something a little "crazy" and bought these good headphones for a...- macm75

TREAD C7 C8
Looking for confirmation on the C7 and C8 caps for the TREAD. I'm pretty sure I have them swapped on the board. Anyway, I'm not used to seeing the 3 digit values on the caps. The small tantalum caps is 105 - is this 1 uF (or 1000000pF)? The other is 106 and again just looking for confirmation...- macm75

Stax SR-303 Impedance?
Anyone know the impedance of the Stax SR-303 or SR-404 (I know they are the same)? Could not find anything on the Stax site. I'm looking for the info so I can find the right output transformer.- macm75

Purpose of Speaker Outs on Stax Adapters?
Sorry if this is a stupid question but what is the purpose of the speaker outputs on the Stax Adapters? Are they specifically intended to be used for electrostatic speakers? I've got a SRD-4 here with no manual and was just curious. Thanks.- macm75

Pimeta JFET Cascodes for Class A Biasing
Simple question... To start my Pimeta without class A biasing of the opamps, can I install the JFET's with R10 open? Or will I damage the transistor with V- connected to the drain (or source?) and an open source (or drain?). If I run the opamps in class A at a later date, I rather just have...- macm75

Will my new 580's get better over time?
I've been listening to a new pair of HD 580's for over a week now and unfortunately I'm disappointed with them out of the box. Sure I've heard the 580's are polite and laid back but if you ask me, so far, these cans are undynamic. They possess little upper mid - higher freq extension. Brass...- macm75

I currently own and enjoy the Grado 80's but my wife complains that they are too loud as I sometimes listen to music in bed. Any options out there for externally quiet headphones ($75-$200)? Thank You.- macm75
