AKG K240 Sextett--Grado'd AKG?
I've been powering my Sextetts with vintage receivers for some time now, but I've just now tried them with a Sansui 221, which is the same line as the 881, just at the opposite end of the spectrum. Wow. Next level. The 221s are perfect headphone amps because they're only 8 WPC so if you're not...- Adabisi

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution
I agree on the DF - very flat and boring - but I don't think it sounds anything like the LP. LP is very dynamic and right in your face.- Adabisi

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution
I suppose you could say that LP is lacking in soundstage and bass quantity. But the whole point of it is to have the sound right in your face, so I wouldn't call it a negative. LP really shines on production where the guitars are upfront (early Sabbath) rather than pushed to the side (Bruce-era...- Adabisi

AKG K240 Sextett & ATH-AD2000... Now what?
Just wanted to post an update on this. I have since picked up the Grado Hemps and I can say, for me, they complete the Holy Trinity for guitar-based music along with the Sextett and AD2000. They're perfect for unamped listening. Right out of my phone, I get that crunch that I haven't been able...- Adabisi

IEM for metal music and hard rock - ultimate solution
Are there any IEMs that come close to that guitar sound you get with the AKG Sextetts or the ATH-AD2000?- Adabisi

AKG K240 Sextett & ATH-AD2000... Now what?
I have a fairly large head and don't find the clamp all that substantial. They're quite comfortable actually.- Adabisi

AKG K240 Sextett & ATH-AD2000... Now what?
Sounds like they're at least worth trying out. I hear nothing but praise for how they handle rock/metal. Yes, that's what I meant. Don't want to level up to $2K headphones and lose those guitars at the forefront. I got mine on the For Sale section here. It's the only place I've ever seen...- Adabisi

AKG K240 Sextett & ATH-AD2000... Now what?
It was your posts and videos that convinced me to try out the Sextett and eventually the AD2000 - you've cost me hundreds in the last few months! And I don't mind a bit - the Sextett/AD2000 are everything I've ever wanted in a pair of headphones. I appreciate the tip on the amp, I'll have to...- Adabisi

AKG K240 Sextett & ATH-AD2000... Now what?
Those two ZMFs are definitely intriguing, but a little beyond what I want to spend on this hobby right now. I've read a lot about the Hemps being great for rock/metal. I've had the Grado SR80 for years and the Sextett/AD2000 sound like an SR80 cracked to 11. How do them Hemps compare to the...- Adabisi

AKG K240 Sextett & ATH-AD2000... Now what?
I wouldn't say that. Tuning is perfect to my ears, but I can see how it some may not appreciate it. Bass quality and quantity is not the selling point, but it does the job just fine.- Adabisi

AKG K240 Sextett & ATH-AD2000... Now what?
Definitely not looking for more neutral. If anything, less neutral and more extreme versions of the Sextett/AD2000 sound. Thanks for the rec, though.- Adabisi

AKG K240 Sextett & ATH-AD2000... Now what?
I love the sound I get from the Sextetts and the AD2000 (non X) plugged into a vintage receiver. THIS is what electric guitars are supposed to sound like. 95% of my listening is rock/metal. Is there anywhere to go from here? Anything that has a comparable sound signature, but next level? Or am...- Adabisi

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution
This is going back a few years, but bust wanted to say thanks for this recommendation. I've never heard guitars like the guitars I'm hearing with the K240 Sextetts. I have the LP version with new Shure SRH840 pads and the bass is perfect. Supposedly these are bass-light, but it's plenty - I...- Adabisi

AKG K240 Sextett--Grado'd AKG?
No, they fit fine as is. They look oval, but stretch to become circular when attached. Didn't cut out the middle. Not sure what effect, if any, that would have.- Adabisi

AKG K240 Sextett--Grado'd AKG?
Sorry for the necropost, but I just wanted to say thanks for this tip. I just picked up an LP pair of Sextetts with the original stock pads. The mids were incredible, but I wanted more bass. These Shure pads are prefect! It's like I'm listening to my whole music collection for the first time...- Adabisi

Need advice: MDR-XD200 meets HD555?
I have the Sony XD200s and love the comfort but the sound isn't the greatest. I had the chance to try out the Sennheiser HD555s the other day and the sound blew me away, but they really clamped down on my head and were pretty heavy. I have a pretty big head (7 1/2" hat size). Basically I'm...- Adabisi
