how many of you guys cook???

My difficulty is not knowing what to call it since it was in an oven. And that oven was preheated to a higher temp than that (since opening the oven to put the roast inside would drop the temps), plus the last side to get seared got the roast on that side (ie the flattest) and then the skillet...

how many of you guys cook???

Edited...actually about 85C (more likely around 90C). C, not F. If it was 175C the whole roast would overcook and I'd have a thicker grey zone. 85C. Well over 4hrs. After the exterior was seared. It's kind of like wrapping it in plastic and then dunking it in 85C water for 3hrs, and then...

how many of you guys cook???

Prime Rib - salted overnight with garlic stuffed into the fat, then seared, then reseasoned with salt and pepper and roasted at 85C (electric) until the probe reported 60C around 4hrs+ later. Rested for 1hr then served with truffle butter and hot jus.

    Amp discussion

Those specific freqs don't looke like they're the upper range limit on the amplifier, but the frequency at which the audio is encoded or decoded. About two decades ago very high frequency sampling for regular Redbook (ie native SACD decoding is different) had people reporting that it sounds...

Needing help choosing the right amp/dac setup with hd650

I I like how Kamelot, Nightwish, etc sound through a Schiit Asgard3 and HD600 with Brainwavz angled velour pads.

How useful is a music streamer if you already own a high-quality DAC and a headphone amp?

The streamer lets you access a hard drive with all your music. I haven't seen a DAC-HPamp that can do that. If you mean a streamer that has a headphone output...try driving a K70x or something with a streamer then hook up an Asgard to drive the K70x.

    Fixed vs Variable output

So you can use them with speakers. If you use them with passive speakers you can use a power amp. As in it's not an integrated amp...because it does not have a preamp. If you use them with active studio monitors with one amp on each speaker unit you don't need to adjust two knobs on each...

    HifiMan Customer Service (Bad Experience)

It's harvest festival on this side of the world right now, which is basically thanksgiving, just a lot less of the kind of traffic jam that happens on the 405 and 5 in California. Even the people who don't have a home outside the big cities are kind of like Americans with turkey, except it's...

    Advice for fledgling audiophile!

Schiit Asgard 3. I wouldn't upgrade the headphones yet, just give it a cleaner, more powerful signal. When you do get the jones to upgrade the headphones to get wider if not also deeper imaging that one has enough Class A power for a Sundara or K702, or Focals. You've got enough Class A/B power...

How I Went from 'Disappointed with HD600' to 'HD600-liciously Happy!' 🎶

It is not 97dB for every 1mW like you'll get 194dB if you input 2mW. It means that for the first 1mW of input you will theoretically be able to hit 97dB, but 1. SPL is logarithmic, the scale is actually doubling the power input for every +3dB. So to theoretically be capable of hitting 100dB it...

How I Went from 'Disappointed with HD600' to 'HD600-liciously Happy!' 🎶

Hard to tell. People tend to describe the sound out of the Mojo being practically magic, not just "I can hear more bass because of a blacker background/higher current performance/more voltage," since in two of those possible reasons it won't be true compared to a good desktop amp, but really...

What is the maximum number of drivers in an IEM?

You're confusing drivers for channels. Drivers in an IEM are like...well...drivers in a speaker. Like how a speaker can have any number of tweeters, midrange, midwoofer, and woofer. Channels are how many such speakers are in a system, plus the subwoofer, ie the ".1" or ".2" in an HT system...

How I Went from 'Disappointed with HD600' to 'HD600-liciously Happy!' 🎶

There are a number of things that could be going on there. First off, with the exception of the early HD600s units with a rise in response at around 3500hz, if you got the ones with a smoother response but is weaker above 1000hz than the PC360, theny by comparison it will sound like it's...

if the drivers are already angled on the phone cups, using angled pads seems overkill?

Not necessarily. It can be, maybe it won't. Think of it like angling speakers except there's no room mode as a variable, but the only thing that should stop you from trying is how much are the angled pads. Also even if you can get cheap angled velour pads, if you get the more expensive lambskin...

DAP worth it for high end car audio system?

In a car environment outside of owning a Maclaren F1 and putting a Rolls Royce's worth of sound dampening on it, the only thing you'll really need is a good DSP. Not sure how good the Burmeister is, but I'd sooner worry about having 3-way output for the front speakers (and shutting down the rear...

    cozy-warmish sounding Class-A amp

Not exactly. Class A is thermally and electronically extremely inefficient compared to A/B let alone D amps, so the same size board and power supply and chassis including heatsink on a Class A amp will support a Class A/B with more power. What many people mistake for power is sometimes just...

Which wears down faster: in-ear tips or headphone ear pads?

But how, exactly? Because one of the variables is pressure. And you can't make this constant because 1. The clamping force needed to keep a headphone in place sans headbanging is probably a lot lower than the pressure that your ear canal has to put on the tips that fit you just to keep them...

Amp for both Planars and Dynamic headphones, understanding specs?

I didn't write that in comparison to the Magnius, but if I'd take it into account now, I'd still take the Asgard3 for a number of reasons: 1. The Asgard3 (note: does not apply to prior versions) has more power than the Magnius in SE. Meaning you can get a fair bit more power without having to...

Amp for both Planars and Dynamic headphones, understanding specs?

Schiit Asgard 3 will give you double the power the HD650 needs and about quadruple the power the Edition XS will need, all without piling on distortion. It will practically be within Class A mode on the HD650 unless you're really out to damage your eardrums, while on judicious listening with...

Are portable audio players good for a car?

Depends on whether you want to use a car audio processor to get past the car being a car but not being a McLaren F1.
