    XTC: The Big Express

I drifted away from Head-Fi some years ago, having more or less settled on my stalwart Grado RS-1 and Gilmore Lite for daily listening, and having put the headphone hobby on ice in favor of more expensive hobbies, such as a wife, house, and, most recently, a never-ending bathroom remodel.  ...

    I have #90, original owner. I think I paid $1400 - I hear they're worth more now? Cheers, jbunniii

    Which Headphone/Earphone would you Keep?

It's a tough call, but I would keep the Grado HP-1 as its performance is unimpeachably very good with pretty much anything you throw at it, whereas the other headphones I own (PS-1, RS-1, Sennheiser HD-600, among others) might sound nicer than the HP-1 on some recordings but worse on others. I...

    Just Spoke with Joe Grado

I have a set of HP-1 headphones that are in need of a new cable. A few weeks ago I contacted Grado Labs, who eventually got back to me and gave me Joe Grado's number. So today I gave the man a call. He was quite helpful - he told me to ship the headphones to him, and he'll check them out...

    Grado Repair

It's been nearly 20 years since I attempted to solder anything, so I think it's a bad idea to attempt to do this job myself! I do have friends who work as techs and who solder things for a living, but I'd feel very uncomfortable asking any of them to do this for me, as it's not only a high-value...

    Grado Repair

I have a pair of HP-1's that need a new cable. I tried e-mailing Grado using the address listed on their web site, which is "info@gradolabs.com", but the mail was returned to me as undeliverable (apparently aliased to "gradoinfo1@aol.com"). Does anyone know the current e-mail address for...

Bowl pads... do they fit you?

The bowls fit my ears fine, but I don't like their sounds except on the PS-1. I find them very strident on the RS-1 in particular, whereas the flat pads sound great. Some people have a comfort problem with the flats, but I haven't experienced that personally.

Grado Flat Pads - Unbelievable Difference

I agree 100%. Both the RS-1 and RS-2 originally shipped with, and were presumably designed for use with, the flat pads. I found the RS-1 hard to listen to for more than 15 to 30 minutes with the bowl pads because of the somewhat thin sound and the harsh peaky upper midrange. With the flats the...

My Grado RS-1 arrived. Hmmn... not sure.

Another vote in favor of flat pads. This $30 investment from Todd the Vinyl Junkie makes a night and day difference. With bowls, I found, and still find, the RS-1 to be shrill and fatiguing and unlistenable for more than maybe half an hour at a time. With flats I can listen all day and the RS-1...

    ATTN: all DT880 owners!!

I drive mine with a Gilmore Lite and have no complaints. You have to turn the volume knob WAY up with the DT880 (somewhere between the 1:00 and 3:00 positions in my experience), but the Lite doesn't mind that, and the sound is excellent.
