Mine is just warm and if I have one inch of space under it, it is barely warm. Have you opened it up to find out where all the heat is coming from? It should not be running hot. Seems like something is wrong.

Looks like the jumpers inside do not disconnect the signal from pin 3.

The DAC1 sounds even better with DVD-A recordings.

The standard Hosa XLR to RCA adapter has pin 3 connected to ground. Did you open it up and disconnect pin 3 from ground?

Or you can use software like winamp plugins to make it sound like a tube amp, concert hall, or auditorium. I like to use those once in a while for fun but not all the time.

I don't think you will lose much quality out of a soundblaster live value soundcard.

CD3000 MSRP is $699.95 and buy.com lists them for $379.98 but they also have a link for volume purchase available of over $5000. I would be surprised if it is for less than $350 each but it's worth a try to find out from them.

I can recommend the Benchmark DAC1 as both source and amp. It sounds great on my 563A and soundcard.

The XLR output has lower unbalanced impedance of 30 ohm than the RCA output of 1250 ohms.
