    Aune S17 pro

Just want to add that my S17, bought via Aune Germany 3 weeks ago, has no heating problems whatsoever. At 20 degrees room temperature, it never got hotter that 62 degrees (100ma). Even after 6 hours of playing (HE1000SE). Also, the volume control is fine (new programming now default). I do...

One more very happy user of these pads with Elear here. Tried several other pads but these are best. The midrange really benefits a lot from these pads. And the build does justice to that of Elear.

Carefull Mordy. You need ECC31 to ECC33! adapters. Regardless if you put the 6N7 in the front or back sockets.

@Lacuffia: I recognize the symptoms you describe with 6N7G. The tubes themselves may well be ok. Some Elise owners, including myself, just have no luck with these as drivers (whether Visseaux or Fivre or..,). I think they represent a borderline between on-spec and off-spec for Elise. It also...

Thanks @DavidA. One more pic, top view:     Hypnos1 will be proud of me : I used solid core silver wire in teflon tubing to make the adapters. The wires run from the central sockets with the 'coke shape' tubes to the front sockets below the surface of the black bottom plate. Of course...

Btw, if you want to use a single 6J5 to start with, you can use the ECC33 to ECC31 adapter (also used for 6N7 tube) too. The pinout is identical for the 5 6J5 pins.

Electrically, the adapters are the same. But the dual commercial ones may not fit properly, Elises sockets are too close. If they do fit, I feel the aesthetics are not great, particularly the hight. All personal of course. Dunno why DL didn't like the 6J5's. I know he owned the Visseaux too. I...

I really sympathise with Mordy in trying to understand better what the electrical parameters of various tubes actually tell us about compatibility with Elise. I guess people like Lukasz and Glenn regularly have a laugh or shake their heads when they read our ramblings on this (to us) elusive...

The Massdrop offering is really attractive but came right after I bought a second set of HD650. I remember when my first HD650's arrived some 10 years ago. Thick, slow sound. Guess what: the new pair again is thick and slow... Having the well burned in pair, a direct comparison can be made and...

Well, yes and no. It runs at the same heater voltage and can work with the same plate, cathode and grid voltages as used in Elise, but the amplification factor is much higher. Also, the 6N7G could be used in class B with 10 watt output! The 6C5 is direct ancestor of the 6SN7 (going back in...

Feliks Audio Elise Impressions Thread – a New Start (please read first post for summary)

I'll make a picture of the setup soon, but it's very simple: just put a single 6J5 in your regular ECC31->6SN7 adapter (the same one used for many tubes, including ECC31 but also 6N7G etc). Just try it (taking normal caution when testing new tubes: old  phones and/or volume down) and see if you...

Sorry to intrude the regulars in this thread :-) I didn't post for a while but did keep an eye on the Elise thread(s) occasionally. I'd like to report on the use of Visseaux 6J5 or 6C5 in Elise. The Visseaux earned their reputation in the Project Ember thread, but (or because of that?) they are...

Thanks for reporting your measurement Howie13. Yes, I meant distortion with the use of 6N7G's as drivers. I'm happy your Elise works fine with these right out of the box. 6.4 V on the heaters is clearly higher than mine (6.0) but it doesn't explain things as Vinylsavor also has 6.0V and his...

I initiated that, with only one reason. Some people (including at least LordRaven and myself but there are more...) have no luck with 6N7G tubes and sometimes some others like FDD20. There is distortion at normal listening levels that sounds like clipping. It's not the tubes. Untilthen once...

Good point Oskari. All voltages Elise produces are lineairly dependent on line voltage. Did check that in the past when I measured all Elise voltages for heater, cathode and grid. Line is 230-235 measured here. So 6.0 seems a bit on the low side to me.

In both the front and rear tubes, the heater voltage is on pins 7 and 8. If you look at Elise's sockets from the front and start from the 'notch' that helps to insert the tubes correctly, they are the first and second holes in the socket to the left. Wait: here's a picture showing it clearer -...

    Feliks-Audio ELISE...New thread.

Could some of you report back how much heater voltage your Elises put out? Mine is quite low at 6.0 volts. That's perfectly within the +/- 5% margin that tube manufacturers recommended, but old NOS tubes tend to like a bit of higher voltage the first couple of hours (not lower) to 'wake up'. I...

Of course, that works fine too. Even more flexible at the max. current site. If there is no need to go to higher voltages this is cheaper: most people have an old PC power supply lying around. In fact, I did try that route but my powersupply was too clever and only wanted to provide current with...

    Feliks-Audio ELISE...New thread.

Hi Mordy,   You probably had a poorly (or non-)regulated power supply. Or, as in my case, the lead wires were too thin to carry the current without resistance. The more current the tubes need, the more current in that wire and the bigger the voltage drop over the wire.   I have no hum...

    Feliks-Audio ELISE...New thread.

A lot of posts on FDD20 and 6N7 family tubes on the last pages and rightfully so. To my ears the FDD20's are the best and they run very well with stock Russian powers. Indeed, they brings out a lot of detail in both the mids and treble but that is served on a basis with increadibly 'physical'...

The fragily of the C3G is real, it has to be handled with care. But one thing seems to be forgotten: it requires its dedicated adapter so you only need to insert it in that once! Tube rolling is done with the whole assembly of tube + adapter, no problems there...   Connieflyer: I noticed that...

    Feliks-Audio ELISE...New thread.

UntilThen: did you actually measure the voltage your adapter outputs? If it is a non-regulated power supply, you may get quite a bit higher voltage when the maximum amperage is not used. I have 12V adapters that output as much as 13,8V when run below their maximum A!

    Feliks-Audio ELISE...New thread.

BTW DecentLevi: how is your Elise in combination with 6N7G?   As others have indicated some Elise amps seem to take everything without complaining, whilst others are finicky. My experiments with the FDD20 at least seem to indicate that all is not lost for the latter group. Furthermore: some...

    Feliks-Audio ELISE...New thread.

Sounds like you are running it at too low voltage! The FDD20 is NOT a 12V tube but 13V. AT 12V, I get distortion too. The hum is probably related to the quality of your 12V power supply. Regarding voltage vs dynamics: if you run it too low, dynamics will suffer. I can promise you my FDD20...

BTW, there are two other things I like to explore in the future, when I find the time for it   - build some 6N7G adapters with wires for external heating. I have a bucket full of 6N7G tubes that rarely work without distortion as soon as they heat up properly. I hope that raising or lowering...
