The New Archos Gmini xs200 or CL zen touch
The battery life is quoted as 10 hours. Is this accurate or is it much less? Do you find that if you don't charge the player for a few days the battery looses a bar or two even though you haven't used it? I ask because this is what happens with players like the zen and Ipod which sleep for 24-48...- DeadTrying

Just got my Creative Zen Micro
Am I the only one who's grappling with the zen's touch pad? The vertical scroll bar is fine but the play, menu and back buttons seem considerably less responsive! Sometimes it takes me a good ten seconds just to get from pause to play. Is my unit defective? I'm also getting rather annoyed by...- DeadTrying

sleeping with headphones?
DON'T talk to me about sleeping with headphones! I used to sleep with my sony MDREX70's and all went fine until I bought a set of wireless Panasonic headphones...then all hell broke loose. I slept with the Panasonics and then I woke up, gasping for breath, to find the EX70's had coiled...- DeadTrying

McAfee Firewall
Zone Alarm can block to much and doesn't employ stateful packet inspection (meaning it just looks at where the data is coming from, not what it's saying). Sygate Personal Firewall is a very secure stateful packet inspection firewall which has worked well for me. As with most things the users...- DeadTrying

Differences Sony MDR-EX51 and MDR-EX71
www.blutin.com have good prices, price in Euro (as well as other currencies), and ship everywhere...they have little sub-depos scattered around the globe but most stuff is shipped directly from asia. They stock both the sony and the sharp earbuds. I have the sony 70's and am very happy with...- DeadTrying

Exactly What IS line-out?
Ah-ha!!! Then Dane, maybe you can answer me one last question... I'm trying to establish a connection between sound quality and power usage to figure out an ideal output specification for a portable unit. The units are amps, and volts for power output which easily convert to mW and...- DeadTrying

Exactly What IS line-out?
I read this in the Portable Audio Section and it didn't seem to be getting any answers. I figured you guys might have a better idea of what a line out actually is (and what it is NOT) and how it should be implemented (curcuit-wise). Quote: Sweet Spot Said Man, all of this talk is...- DeadTrying

to FLAC or not to FLAC?
Cd's are prone to scratching and being lent out to careless friends I recommend Buy the biggest, cheapest, fastest spinning Laptop HD (E.g. Toshiba 60gig MK6022GAX) you can land your hands on and purchase an external HD caddy for it (USB2/Firewire). Rip all your audio digitally to...- DeadTrying

MP3/LAME vs WAV - The Experiment
For what it's worth i'm of the opinion that you should store two copies of all your music on your PC. The first copy is a lossless encoding in something like the flac format. This essentially compressed wavs to roughly 2/3 their size but the sound is a digitally perfect copy of the original...- DeadTrying

Winamp DSP Plugins
DFX is rubbish Enhancer is pretty good for adding some ambience http://www.i-adrian.home.ro/enhancer.htm Crossfeed Plugin (dsp_crossfeed.dll) is also good but very subtle (ATTACHED!). Ideally you have crossfeed running into enhancer and there was a thread about this in the Headphones...- DeadTrying

How To Reduce White Noise From Wireless Headphones???
I have a pair of Panasonic RP-RF910 and they have an undocumented dynamic hiss reduction feature. At roughly half volume the hiss is at a minimum and is barely audible. Mini Disc player recommendations needed
Anacondastan, you need to read up about the players and the technology. This is so you make a better informed decision and end up with a product which you won't regret buying in a year's time. First, if you want to burn (record) minidiscs you need a MiniDisc recorder. A player will only play...- DeadTrying

Review Request: NEX ia / Nex ia Plus
Ok, Thanks for that. I really liked the look of the Nex because of it's support for flash, but you're right, it seems to have so many little problems that all the good points (sound, ease of transfer of music) are really overshadowed. This really leaves me hanging. It seems like my only...- DeadTrying
