Gustard U16 - the first USB Interface featuring ESS USB chip
Sorry, I seldom come to Head-fi, and did not see the question. I downloaded it from https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1GZcdzkL9f6Ajfa8snryEI8l7ccff97Zi Well, if you still have the U16, no harm giving it a try to see if it works for your system. It works for me without problems thus far...- taz23

Gustard U16 - the first USB Interface featuring ESS USB chip
So it seems that the source plays a role too. Anyway, thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread and posted the FW update files, I am happy to report that the 1.72REL seems to work wonders in my case. With AES out to Genelecs, 192kHz now works flawlessly now. I hope it will be stable...- taz23

Gustard U16 - the first USB Interface featuring ESS USB chip
Same here. Feeding Genelec via AES out from U16 and PC has been issue-free. (By the way, the Genelecs accept up to 24/192, but no DSD, sadly.) But recently, I have been playing around with dedicated transport (specifically xDuoo X10T II): USB out from transport into U16, and then AES to...- taz23

The Zishan dsd's corner
Hi all, a new Zishan AK4499 owner here, and I have some questions to learn more. 1. What is the function of the "Full Speed" under SYSTEM? Does it do anything? 2. I noticed that the Lineout is variable volume. Is that normal? Many thanks. I am enjoying the sound while reading up more...- taz23

LZ A5
I recommend getting LZ 8-braid copper cable while you are waiting for the A5s. I find that it is a good match. There is no memory wire and the cable is so supple (besides having good SQ)! It is a good daily IEM for me... Hope you will like it too.- taz23

LZ A5
I am sorry to hear about defects in some units. I will continue to listen to the AT using LZ's 8 braid copper cable while it lasts... Sounds nice to me out of the Sony ZX300. Looking forward to more news about the new filters.- taz23

Obscure Chinese DAPs
Great to hear that you managed to resolve the issue with the card, and enjoying the unit now. I never have issue with card on the FA1. (The Sony ZX300 is more fussy when it comes to the card used.) I think there is a very short gap (maybe half a sec) between tracks, so not true gapless.- taz23

1) No, it cannot be used as a USB DAC. 2) I have no idea. 3) Yes, you can change the language to English or any other major languages. I hope this helps.- taz23

Obscure Chinese DAPs
@Nymphonomaniac, if your IEM is terminated with 2.5mm plug (AK-style), then you can use a direct 3.5mm male to 2.5mm female TRRS adaptor. This is because the FA1 is 3.5mm TRRS AK-style (and not Hifiman-style); it is not the usual way. But with this adaptor, you will be able to use the...- taz23

Obscure Chinese DAPs
Haha, don't worry, I am not even based in China. I can read Chinese though, and have checked with F.Audio about their firmware. The latest version should be dated 4 Dec, and they are working on the next version now. The latest version can be found on https://pan.baidu.com/s/1eS8NN0m , and...- taz23

Obscure Chinese DAPs
I did compare the FA1 to my friend's Ultima. While the Ultimate is better in many aspects (e.g., screen, power, responsiveness, bass texture, details), I feel that the FA1 has the same sound signature and I cannot justify the >10 times difference in price based on what I heard. Looking forward...- taz23

Obscure Chinese DAPs
I strongly suspect that the metal casing is grounded and serves to lower the noise. This is because I will see electrical sparks when my USB charging cable accidentally touches the metal case. Scary, but no damage done. Besides incorporating the power-hungry AK4497 DAC chip (I am not sure...- taz23

Obscure Chinese DAPs
I would like to comment that the Sony 4.4mm balanced have this special out-of-head soundstage (or headstage) effect. It is more like listening to a 2.0 speaker setup where the sound is coming from outside of the head, akin to real live performances. Most, if not all, other DAPs (FA1 included)...- taz23

Obscure Chinese DAPs
Currently, I am only using IEMs (and occasionally easy-to-drive earbuds) directly out of the FA1. My better headphone is the HE-560 and that beast needs power; so I didn't even try it with the FA1. I did use the FA1 to feed my desktop amp to drive it, even though it would be considered...- taz23

Obscure Chinese DAPs
I agree that the UI is really basic and it is not as responsive as the ZX300. At half the price and without the huge R&D department of Sony, I would still say that it is a very respectable attempt by F.Audio. IMHO, the sound quality is good and that is the most important factor for me. Not to...- taz23

Obscure Chinese DAPs
I am still loving the FA1. It is detailed and musical, and also forgiving. I just got the Sony ZX300; it is more detailed but it is also very critical with regards to the source files. For instance, for my hi-res classical vinyl rips, the cracks and pops show up very distinctly. (Not to say...- taz23
